New York about to become conservative-free?
Sally Zelikovsky

New York's Governor Cuomo really stepped in it this weekend when discussing his views on the state of the GOP:

Quote
"Their problem is not me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves," he said. "Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that's who they are and they're the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that's not who New Yorkers are."

Cuomo can walk this statement back all he wants, but the fact is, when liberals speak off the cuff and let their guard down -- without the protection that comes from teleprompters and prepared speeches -- they speak their true beliefs.  Does anyone doubt that Cuomo would prefer to govern New York (or this country) unencumbered and unimpeded by conservative dissent?  Is there any doubt that most left-wingers dream of a utopian paradise without a conservative thorn in their collective sides?

Like it or not, this reeks of totalitarianism-in-training.  I'm not one to pull analogies out of the air willy-nilly, especially regarding something as serious as the Holocaust and the German Reich, but this statement by Cuomo is about as odious and ominous as it gets.

Juden raus.  Judenrein.  Judenfrei.  Das Juden Problem.  The Jews had no place in Germany (or Europe or the world, for that matter), because that's not who the Germans were.  They didn't share the same value system or culture or place in the hierarchy of man, as the Germans.  Germany's problem was simply the Jews themselves, much as the problem Cuomo is referring to is the conservatives themselves.  The Conservative Problem.  Conservative Free.  Cleansed of Conservatives.  Conservatives Out!

Chilling.

In order to be labeled "extreme" and part of the problem, do conservatives have to embrace all three -- traditional marriage, 2nd Amendment rights, and life -- in order to be unwelcome in New York, or are they equally unwelcome if they support only one or two of the three?  Does it matter if they come from a long line of conservatives?  What if one parent is conservative and the other is liberal?  What about the rest of their lineage?

If conservatives have no place in New York, are they to leave voluntarily?  Take their money and personal chattel to another state -- where it will be better for conservatives (until those states are annexed by the left?).  That's great for people who can afford to move, but very few have that as an available alternative.  It's hard to pick up and go when families, jobs, and property are here.

Conservatives consider themselves Americans, entitled to the same freedoms as liberal Americans, but are some people more American than others depending on their political beliefs?  And if conservatives aren't deemed as American as liberals, should they be punished by exile?

Will they be asked to leave?  Will they be ousted?  Will their lives as "outed" conservatives be made so miserable that they are forced to leave because it will impact their ability to gain employment, buy property, pursue political goals and take care of their families?

Before conservatives are forced out of New York, how will they be identified?  Will they have to watch what they say around the water cooler at lunch?  Will they be identified from their voting records or the election signs they put on their lawns?  From the phone calls and emails they make?  Will the IRS track the political and charitable contributions they make?  Will their neighbors or children have to turn them in if they suspect them of conservative leanings?  Will their licenses and passports identify them as conservatives?  Will they have to wear identifying shapes on their coats in, let's say, the color red?

Maybe I'm making too much out of Cuomo's statement, but I don't think so.  If Chris Christie or Nikki Haley had said people who support gay marriage, gun control, and abortion are not welcome in New Jersey or South Carolina, what would the outcry from the left look like?  If liberal viewpoints were characterized by conservatives as "problematic" as opposed to "patriotic dissent," what would be the headlines on the front page of the New York Times?

Residents in Queens, NY are planning a rally against Cuomo and I hope every New Yorker with a conscience shows up to support them before Cuomo starts breaking windows and burning books.

Anyone with half a brain and the money to do it left some time ago which is why DeBlazio got elected in the first place.  New Yawk has been pretty much conservative-free for decades and anyone who hasn't left by now is doomed anyway.

The good news is we can always invoke the "Escape From New York" clause, blow all the bridges and keep 'em all contained.....

Hitler, 1936:
"Juden, AUS !!"

Cuomo, 2014:
"Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that's who they are and they're the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that's not who New Yorkers are."
"Christian conservatives, AUS !!"

The only thing Herr Andrew forgot to add was to sing a few lines, "Tomorrow belongs to me!"
