The United States pledged on Wednesday to donate $380 million in humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, Secretary of State John Kerry announced at the Second International Humanitarian Pledging Conference in Kuwait City, which aims to help the United Nations raise $6.5 billion for Syria and neighboring countries in 2014, Reuters reported.

The aid will go to people affected by the war in Syria and to refugees in neighboring countries that have taken in an estimated 2.3 million refugees who have fled the country, Kerry said.

"The humanitarian situation in Syria is an outrage that should offend every reasonable conscience, and the anguish of the Syrian people demands our collective action," Kerry said.

"The Syrian people desperately need the global community to provide urgent humanitarian support, to press for a political solution that will put a stop to the violence, once and for all."

It brings total US humanitarian aid to the victims of the deadly conflict to $1.7 billion.

According to the report, nations taking part in Wednesday's conference pledged more than a $1.37 billion.

According to CNN: Kuwait $500 million; United States $380 million; Saudi Arabia $260 million; United Kingdom $164 million; Qatar $60 million; Iraq $13 million; Finland $7 million.
