State Sen. Nina Turner (D., Ohio) gave the impression Sunday on MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry that “103 million Americans” had lost their unemployment benefits when they expired at the end of 2013, because of the Republican Party.

If Turner was accurate, that would mean nearly one-third of the country is out of work. The correct figure was 1.3 million.

“The GOP went on recess and said Merry Christmas to folks, knowing that on December the 28th, 103 million Americans were not going to have their unemployment benefits,” Turner said. “Unemployment benefits that, in fact, they earned.”

Harris-Perry, the MSNBC host and public intellectual who recently came under fire for her cringe-inducing panel discussion mocking Mitt Romney’s infant black grandson, did not correct Turner, although she did mention the right figure of 1.3 million the next time she spoke.
