Maricopa County joins Mohave, Apache, and Navajo Counties in passing a Resolution to Censure Sen. John McCain!
5:48 PM - 11 Jan 2014
The Maricopa County GOP on Saturday voted 1169–358 to censure Sen. John McCain over his “long and terrible record of drafting, co-sponsoring and voting for legislation best associated with liberal Democrats,” such as amnesty, funding for Obamacare, the debt ceiling, and “assaults on the Constitution and 2nd amendment.”

Final numbers on resolution censuring Sen. John McCain: 1169 for, 358 against. @arizonaluke #tcot #teaparty #gop #az http://www.icarizona.com/2014/01/sen-john-mccain-censored-by-maricopa.html

The resolution concludes that the Republican leadership in Arizona “will no longer support, campaign for or endorse John McCain as our U.S. Senator,” at least “until he consistently champions our party’s platform and values.”

The full resolution is available here.

If these political animals had worked as hard at election time in 2010, as they are on this, they might have brought about a defeat of McCain. But that would have put them working for JD Hayworth.

McCain defeated Hayworth 56% to 32% in the 2010 GOP primary.

Previously in 2006, despite a Republican advantage in district registrations of 139,057 to just 86,743 democrats Hayworth LOST 50% to 46% for he 5th Az. District, House seat.

Hayworth could be viewed as a preview of later Tea Party candidates, that were out of touch with voters, including Republican voters in their district.

I think it is instructive to think these situations all the way through. Start with a GOP held seat, nominate a GOP candidate that is too extreme, lose the seat.

Alphabetically Akin, Angle, Buck, Hayworth  Mourdock, O'Donnell, come to mind.

Yet the TP fad seems to be hell bent on a repeat performance.

Love how you always twist this stuff to suit yourself.  In fact McCain twisted AZ GOP arms to open the primary to DEMOCRATS and DEMOCRATS crossed over to vote for him... in the meantime McCain had a ringer in the race who bled off conservative votes in the primary...

Can you prove that democrats changed the primary outcome, from Hayworth to McCain? Because I simply don't buy it.

..... And what excuse have you got for Hayworth's defeat in 2006 in what should have been a walkover for a Republican?

You seem to be incapable of grasping that the Tea Party type candidates have narrow, but deep support. That is evidenced by LOUD on internet forums.

But the candidates themselves are often viewed by the entire electorate, as too extreme. And they have handed some previously districts to democrats, for that reason.

See Hayworth, 2006 for an early warning.

I guess you have forgotten that McCain was involved in the Abramhoff scandal, too.... JD lost in 2006 because he was re-districted into a heavily democrat district - and at that he barely lost.   McCain controls the AZ GOP. It is why no one challenges him. He had a lot to do with our excellent senator Kyl retiring and no one challenging Flake - his hand-picked replacement for Kyl and voting twin.  Frankly you know very little about Arizona politics, I think your time would be better spent trying to help get a Republican ELECTED in California.

That is NOT a heavily democrat district. Wiki see link

"From 2003 to 2013, the district covered all of Tempe and Scottsdale and portions of Chandler, Mesa and the Ahwatukee section of Phoenix. Although Republicans outnumbered Democrats by about 40,000 voters, the 5th District was considered far less conservative than other suburban Phoenix districts. George W. Bush received 54% of the vote in this district in 2004 and native son John McCain narrowly won the district in 2008 with 51.70% of the vote while Barack Obama received 47.17%."

Facts trump spin, and prove my point about Republicans too extreme for their electorates.

The Maricopa County censures everybody.  They censured Gov Brewer and their state house speaker and senate president and a bunch of GOP legislators.  It's what they do.

Baloney.  In fact they redistricted him and he picked up Tempe and University of AZ in his district.  It just so happened a very popular former mayor from Tempe ... a Democrat ... was running against him and the students at U of A turned out in large numbers to vote for the former Mayor.  I live here and I am politically active in the GOP here, I don't need Wiki to tell me what to think about what happened in 06 or 10.  In fact our local reps state and federal are all Tea Party conservatives and very well liked.
