A bare majority of Americans say they are looking forward to midterm elections in a new poll, but Republicans are more excited for them by a much larger margin.

Asked what they were “especially looking forward to” in 2014, 51 percent of Americans chose November’s midterm elections, according to a Pew Research Center poll out Tuesday.

Broken down by party, 63 percent of Republicans said they were anticipating midterms, compared with 53 percent of Democrats.

Midterms are less anticipated than the Winter Olympics, which 58 percent said they were looking forward to, but far more popular than the Academy Awards, which 22 percent are looking forward to.

Pew surveyed 1,005 adults from Jan. 2 to 5 for the poll, which has an error margin of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points. The sample included 249 Republicans, with an error margin of plus or minus 7.5 percentage points, and 311 Democrats, with a margin of error of plus or minus 6.7 percentage points.
