Chinese Carrier Completes Training Mission

China’s first modern aircraft carrier has returned to port after more than a month at sea on a training mission, Chinese state media reported early Thursday.

Carrier Liaoning “attained the anticipated objectives”, tested combat systems, practiced flight operations and practiced ship formations during the 37-day underway period, according to a vague report in the state-run Xinhua News Agency.

Though the resolution of the photo was low, the formation appears to be made up of a Yuzhao-class amphibious warship and six destroyers.

The unknown Yuzhao-class ship is believed to be the ship that nearly collided with U.S. Navy guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens (CG-63) — which was shadowing the group in early December.

The incident was called an “irresponsible action,” by U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.

The 55,000-ton Liaoning is a former Ukrainian-built, Soviet-era ship China has been using to learn the basics of operating a carrier ahead of a planned domestic carrier construction program.

The Titanic crew completed training exercises, too.

Unlike the Titanic, the Chinese Navy wants control of East Asian waters and have a possible confrontation with the United States.

I spent 3 years and four months on a carrier and there is more to efficiency than training.  The quality of the people on board makes a huge difference.  The officers directing air traffic, both on the hangar deck, on the flight deck, and in the air are critical.  Getting planes from the hangar to the flight deck safely and quickly is important.  Being able to refuel when needed at speeds needed, the quality of medical care, the quality of food, the quality of fire teams and rescue teams, meteorlogical data, repair teams, engineering, etc. are all vital and I would say the US is far ahead in all since we have had nearly 80 years of practice. :patriot:

Remember, the Chinese is getting help from the Russian Navy in regards to carrier operations. They are extremely fast learners. In addition to the acquisition of retired aircraft carriers of foreign navies, the PLAN has been actively purchasing foreign aircraft carrier designs as well. in April 2013 Chinese Rear Admiral Song Xue confirmed that China will build more carriers and these will be larger and will carry more fighter-planes than the Liaoning
