Although much of the mainstream media gushed over Cory Booker being elected to the United States Senate, few have taken a critical eye to the legacy Booker left behind as Mayor of Newark.
According to MYFOXNY.com, if you go to Newark now, you’ll find any number of ad hoc memorials to murder victims, as the city struggles with staggering violence. The murder rate in Newark has already hit 110, according to the Essex County Prosecutor, the highest level since 1990.
Guess Booker’s engagement with residents while leading the city, such as living off food stamps and live tweeting citizens directly, didn’t go very far toward stemming the crime rate.
Recently Reginald Terry, an 18-year-old college honor student and former high school football star, was sho† and k!lled while shielding a young woman from random gunfire.
Now Cory Booker is gone, but Donna Jackson, known as the godmother of Newark, is stepping up to do what she can to help families who are dealing with violence in their lives and in their communities. She helps grieving parents deal with what’s to come after they’ve lost a child to violence.
“Our entire city is mourning the loss of life due to gun violence which has negatively impacted our city during this holiday season,” Mayor Luis Quintana said. “We are listening to and agree with the concerns of our communities. The number one priority of my administration has been since day one, and continues to be, to address the public safety needs of our residents.”
