Koffler: WORLD IN CHAOS (thanks to Obama's weakness)

World in Chaos
by Keith Koffler, White House Dossier
January 3, 2014, 12:12 pm

I read the news today, oh boy.

The world lacks American leadership. It lacks the sense that America will take action to defend its interests. That America is decisive. That America is dangerous.

We are not respected, and it shows. Because when we go completely to sleep, the jackals come out to hunt at night. Keep your children close. Soon they’ll be hunting us.

I believe the bar should be high for U.S. intervention in these barbaric lands. But I do not believe the United States can remove itself from the world. Because if we think the barbarism won’t end up here, we are deceiving ourselves.

We don’t have to put boots on the ground in most cases. But we do have to show resolve and a willingness to act. Bullies will rarely fight you when you stand up to them.

In Iraq, which was relatively stable until Obama completely abandoned it militarily, Al Qaeda is on the march, fighting for control of major cities. The blood of our servicemen and women was spilled there at least partially in vain.

Speaking of the blood of our service members, Afghanistan is preparing to release hundreds of prisoners from Bagram prison – which we’ve turned over to Karzai – many of whom have been involved in attacks against our troops. The Taliban will soon be back in control of that place anyway as the United States exits without having finished the job.

Syria, where we once could have made a meaningful difference, is in chaos, a magnet and a proving ground for al Qaeda rebels. Libya has become another dangerous haven for terrorists.

Egypt only stabilized, somewhat, when the military decided to ignore Obama and take matters into its own hands.

Iran will not be deterred, Obama has made clear, from maintaining a nuclear program. Since Iran doesn’t need a nuclear program, that by definition is a nuclear weapons program. Soon they will have the “breakout” capacity to build the bomb.

Meanwhile, Iran is providing Hezbollah with sophisticated, accurate new missiles it hopes will deter Israel from striking its nuclear facilities once Netanyahu finally gets that Obama isn’t going to.

China is asserting itself throughout East Asia. Our allies there wonder how serious we are about defending them. Obama’s decision to advise our airlines to comply with a recent seizure of airspace by the Chinese raises concerns.

South Sudan is disintegrating. Leftism is prevailing throughout South America. Russia is reasserting itself in the Middle East.

The jackals understand weakness. They prey on it. They see it in Obama. And Obama, like it or not, represents us.

I support U.S. "removal from the world."  We were involuntarily "removed" from Vietnam and no dominoes fell in Southeast Asia.  So I see no evidence that American intervention has done anything to "make the world a safer place."  I'm done with foreign adventures.

Me too.  I'm tired of sending money we don't have to countries that hate us and want to kill us.  This is national suicide!

Exactly. And who's to say, in the Internet age, that indigenous populations around the world won't themselves take care of business through internal dissent and force their oppressive overlords to modernize.

Maybe we need to rethink foreign policy. In my opinion, America's using a 19th-century approach to a 21st-century world. Boots on the ground maybe less effective in changing regimes than cell phones and big-screen TVs.

Perhaps when the enemy was a political ideology or sustenance.  Theology is a different story.  The response shouldn't be boots on the ground, it should be bombs from the air.
Why?  Well, because I'm a bastard, that's why.

You mean no dominoes fell other than Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, much of the Philippines, and only staved of with great difficulty by a very strong Western educated leader in Thailand!

It would be one thing if we spent the money correctly. Sending our soldiers into harm's way just to be social workers certainly is not the answer.

It is all about corruption, not logic. All of those billions of dollars sent overseas are kicked back to the very people, or their friends, or their family members, or their supporters, or their agents, who approve the transfer. A significant percentage of so called "foreign aid" comes back here in one form or another, just in different hands. It now no longer belongs to the government but to XYZ Inc. who happen to be major donators. Imagine that?

"Foreign Aid" is a form of money laundering on a grand scale.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.

Indonesia is a republic. Malaysia is a federal constitutional monarchy. Cambodia is a unitary state with a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary system. The Republic of Philippines has a democratic government.  Of these countries, only Laos remains as one of the world's five Socialist states (the others being China, Cuba, Vietnam, and North Korea).

And from what I have been able to determine Laos is not an oppressive state, it's constitution contains most key safeguards for human rights – and it has a thriving tourism industry. However, Amnesty International has raised concerns about human rights violations in Laos.

We lost over 58,000 troops in Vietnam. To what end? Was it worth it?

Rather than take money from our veterans Paul Ryan should have pushed to defund places like Pakistan, Egypt, etc... spend the money here first and foremost.

How much is it costing to continue to post troops in the Balkans (from which Clinton promised we'd leave by Christmas 1996, as I recall)?
