The language is so over the top, as to discredit the legitimate purpose. Calling non Tea Party Republicans socialists is what I mean.

We need political realignment into two major camps: conservative/libertarian and progressive/statist

Libertarians, constitutionalists, conservative republicans, conservative and religious democrats, pro-lifers, rank-and-file union members, middle-class and small business owners.

 -- versus --

Establishment statists, progressives, crony capitalist republicans, socialist democrats, Pro-choice, elitists and literati, and greenies.

Of course, this limited view only addresses domestic policy issues. When foreign-policy is in the mix that's when alignment problems become irreconcilable.

Help me out here. Where am I going wrong?

I agree with you.  Remember McCain is an unabashed Teddy Roosevelt Republican.  TR was a progressive.
