NBC New Year’s Eve Mocks Pearl Harbor Survivors As Only Able to Chew SpaghettiOs

On Pearl Harbor Day, Campbell’s got in a lot of trouble when it tweeted out a picture of its SpaghettiOs mascot holding an American flag and asking people to "take a moment to remember #PearlHarbor with us."

On NBC’s “New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly,” actress and comedienne Natasha Leggero disgustingly joked, “It sucks that the only survivors of Pearl Harbor are being mocked by the only food they can still chew” (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CARSON DALY, HOST: SpaghettiOs on Pearl Harbor Day, they sent out a tweet featuring their mascot holding an American flag asking people to quote “take a moment to remember #PearlHarbor with us.” It offended a lot of people, corporations glomming on to, you know, sentimental American historic traditions, seemingly looking for people in business. It wasn't good. But you were offended for another reason.

JANE LYNCH: I'm offended because they were referring to SpaghettiOs as pasta.

NATASHA LEGGERO: I mean, it sucks that the only survivors of Pearl Harbor are being mocked by the only food they can still chew. It's just sad.

The entire group thought this was hysterical, especially actor Anthony Anderson who proceeded to laugh as if this was the funniest thing he’d ever heard.

Yeah, mocking the only survivors of one of the worst attacks on America in its history is hilarious.

  • Your what hurts??
What do you expect from New Year's Eve on NBS??  This has all of the depth of the pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-Superbowl Kickoff special with Terry Bradshaw that starts at 8AM even though kickoff isn't until after 6:45 at night...

The survivors of Pearl Harbor that I know and have known in the past didn't eat spaghettio's and I doubt they even knew what they were. None of my relatives went to nursing homes where if feeble they eat strained foods otherwise seniors eat pretty well they do make false teeth for those that finally as they get older need them. I hate when people make fun of groups of people they seem to know nothing about. The only group I know that like spaghettio's are kids from about 18 months to 10 years old since they really have no taste when it comes to food then. Pearl Harbor survivors should be talked about with respect or if they can't do that then they should keep their mouths shut.

Wow. That just leaves me with a "WTH" kind of speechlessness.
