A New York institution falls to Leftist ideology. I believe de Blasio made this a campaign promise while running. Well, New Yawkers elected him so they are getting what they paid for.

And so it begins…New York City’s new mayor de Blasio vows to ban the horse-drawn carriage

Horse-drawn carriages have been a part of New York City’s heritage since the city was called New Amsterdam.  Now, the Big Apple’s new openly-socialist mayor wants to ban them forever.

from NY Daily News:

Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio vowed to act quickly to abolish horse-drawn carriages in the city.

"We are going to get rid of the horse carriages. Period,” de Blasio said in response to a question at his press conference announcing his schools chancellor pick Monday.

“It’s over,” he said.

De Blasio said he would work with existing drivers to set them up with alternative vehicles to ferry tourists around Central Park.

De Blasio and advocacy groups who support him say it’s inhumane to make the horses work the dangerous city streets, but drivers insist their horses are well cared for and there’s no reason to end the industry.
...

Many of the carriage drivers in New York City have worked with their animals their entire lives and de Blasio’s ban would mean an abrupt end to their careers.  The carriages are famous and have been featured in countless movies and tv shows.

De Blasio is filling the shoes of ban-happy Nanny Bloomberg, and already he looks like he’s going be an even more iron fisted totalitarian than his predecessor.

Whatever the "alternative vehicles" will be I am sure the ride will be as charming and romantic as are the carriage rides currently. I'm thinking rickshaws. After all that way no horses will be endangered.

We need Aligncare's input on this little gem.
