 THE ALIOTTA REPORT

During the 3-1/2 years of World War 2 that started with the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and ended with the Surrender of Germany and Japan in 1945, the U.S. produced 22 aircraft carriers, 8 battleships, 48 cruisers, 349 destroyers, 420 destroyer escorts, 203 submarines, 34 million tons of merchant ships, 100,000 fighter aircraft, 98,000 bombers, 24,000 transport aircraft, 58,000 training aircraft, 93,000 tanks, 257,000 artillery pieces, 105,000 mortars, 3,000,000 machine guns, and 2,500,000 military trucks.

We put 16.1 million men in uniform in the various armed services,  invaded Africa, invaded Sicily and Italy, won the battle for the Atlantic, planned and executed D-Day, marched across the Pacific and Europe, developed the atomic bomb and ultimately conquered Japan and Germany.

It's worth noting that, during the almost exact amount of time, the Obama administration couldn't build a functioning web site.

Pretty stark comparison, isn't it?

Now tell me how much money we spent to build all of those products for WWII, and compare it to what the US Government spends in a single year now......and compare what we had to show for our money then, and now.....

The total cost of the US military effort in World War II, from 1941-1945 was $296 billion (in current year dollars), or approximately $4.1 trillion in 2011 dollars.*

But consider that nearly three-fourths of that spending was financed by private purchases of US War bonds, the primary impact of which, aside from helping to win the war, was the financing of a massive industrial machine in America which dominated the globe for a generation.

Actually half of the war bonds during WWII were purchased  to fuel the war effort according to the History Channels new program,WWII from Space.

Before we start comparing economics, let's not forget that the US government commandeered all material resources, imposed wage and price controls, and rationing on the entire country.  That alone should be enough to make any close comparison of WWII to today a matter of comparing apples and oranges.

And when the Twin Towers were attacked, the loss of life equaled Pearl Harbor, what did we sacrifice?

The US is unwilling to defend itself, as we once did.

I argued then and now, we should have stomped islam into the ground. Made them beg us to stop.

Just another reason why the two situations are incomparable.  For all that 9/11 was shocking, it was nowheres near the existential threat that the Japanese were, or appeared to be, when they attacked Pearl Harbor and destroyed most of the Pacific fleet.

I know the two are not the same. What is different is our response. At the end of WWII Germany, Italy and Japan were absolutely no threat, and had surrendered, unconditionally.

Islam has not surrendered. And we have not earned a clear cut victory.
