Most Americans say this Congress is worst in their lifetime, CNN poll says

By David Lightman

McClatchy Washington BureauDecember 26, 2013

The current Congress is not only unproductive, but most Americans see it as the worst they've ever known, according to a new CNN/ORC International poll released Thursday.

Two-thirds said the 113th Congress, which left for the year last week, is the worst in their lifetime. Twenty-eight percent disagreed.

Nearly three in four said this Congress has done nothing to deal with the nation's problems.

This disdain for Congress "exists among all demographic and political subgroups. Men, women, rich, poor, young, old - all think this year's Congress has been the worst they can remember," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland told the network.

"Older Americans - who have lived through more congresses - hold more negative views of the 113th Congress than younger Americans. Republicans, Democrats and independents also agree that this has been the worst session of Congress in their lifetimes."

Neither political party is spared. Fifty-two percent said Congress' Democratic leaders are taking the nation in the wrong direction, while 54 percent felt that way about Republicans.

The survey was taken December 16-19, questioning 1,035 adults nationwide by telephone. Margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points

"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim tribute to patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness -- these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. . . . reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles."
George Washington

"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters."

As long as we have Harry Reid as head of the senate, we'll not have any progress in getting work done.
He's the most stubborn, obstinate control freak we've ever had in congress.
He absolutely hates the republicans and stops any action that is put forth by them, then whines to the press about "their" obstruction.

Of course, I'm also disappointed in the lily livered elitist republicans that have been in Washington way to long. They don't even begin to represent their states until it's election time.
We never hear from Richard Burr until he's up for election, then he's all over the local news extolling his good qualities as a leader. pffff!
