Gingrich Sees Christie-Perry Showdown for 2016 GOP Bid

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says he is betting on a Chris Christie-Rick Perry showdown for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

"You can imagine a Perry-Christie fight," Gingrich said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union. "That would be a very interesting choice for the Republican Party."

As for the Democrats, it's Hillary Clinton all the way, Gingrich said.

"If she runs, she is the inevitable nominee," he said.

Gingrich also thinks President Barack Obama, whose approval rating stands at 41
percent, can make a political recovery in 2014.
"Presidents can and do recover," Gingrich said. "What he needs to do is go to Hawaii and stop and just let the last few years bubble up in his head and try to figure out three or four big things, not small things."

Obama's got to figure out how to fix the Affordable Care Act, should reach out to Republicans and should develop "large visionary goals" for the remainder of his term "so we could have a State of the Union that has real meaning," Gingrich said.

"For all their tactical brilliance, the Democrats have huge, strategic, structural problems, and you see it now, for example, with people under 24 where he [Obama] is just losing ground every week," Gingrich said. "People hire presidents, in the end, to make things work, and if they don't make things work then their party takes a beating because, in the end, the party goes down with them."
