CAPITOL UPDATE: Crucial Michigan Senate Seat Going Republican?

by Ulsterman on December 20, 2013

As the Duck Dynasty related turmoil continues to swirl across the front pages, a bit of “in the trenches” reporting of another crucial U.S. Senate seat that could be going to the Republicans in 2014 – MICHIGAN.

Terry Lynn Land may win the vacated seat of Michigan Senator Carl Levin, helping to tilt the Senate to the Republicans in 2014

This time last year, Michigan was not on the “take it back” map for GOP strategists.  When Senator Carl Levin announced he was retiring after this year, that position hadn’t changed much.  State Democrats in Michigan had already positioned former bank executive and current Congressman Gary Peters as Levin’s replacement, promising Peters access to political monies to ensure he had a clear and simple path to Election Day victory.

Then came the Obamacare debacle, voter outrage, and Levin’s record of supporting Obamacare in 2009.  The Levin camp is now attempting to backtrack from Obamacare, but Michigan voters are being reminded of his support by Terry Land, Michigan’s current Secretary of State.  Land has garnered favor from both Michigan moderates and those who affiliate with various Tea Party groups, but it is Obamacare that is lifting Land’s prospects, while posing considerable challenge to Congressman Peters.  Terry Land now leads Congressman Peters in the most recent polling data, and is winning the independent vote by a 2 to 1 margin.  This data is apparently worsening an already panicked DNC, which is trying frantically to determine where best to spend campaign dollars.  Taking back the House has all but been given up on – they are almost entirely focused on trying to keep the Senate, but the Obamacare backlash appears unlikely to be remedied.

Sources on the Hill indicate this is yet more evidence of just how significant a problem Obamacare will be for Democrats across the nation, and with millions more Americans poised to lose their current health insurance and choice of doctor, Obamacare doesn’t appear to be getting better for Democrats any time soon.

“Obama has become a curse word muttered under the breath of Democrats on the Hill, for his name is now aligned with their own election day nightmares.”
The time is now near at hand which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be, Freemen, or Slaves. G Washington July 2, 1776
