On Thursday's Laura Ingraham radio show, liberal feminist professor and columnist Camille Paglia slams the backlash over the controversial remarks made by "Duck Dynasty" standout Phil Robertson:

"I speak with authority here because I was openly gay before the 'Stonewall Rebellion,' when it cost you something to be so," she said. "And I personally feel as a libertarian that people have the right to free thought and free speech. In a democratic country, people have the right to be homophobic as they have the right to support homosexuality -- as I 100 percent do. If people are basing their views against gays on the Bible, again they have a right to religious freedom there … to express yourself in a magazine in an interview -– this is the level of punitive PC, utterly fascist, utterly Stalinist, OK, that my liberal colleagues in the Democratic party and on college campuses have supported and promoted over the last several decades. It's the whole legacy of the free speech 1960's that have been lost by my own party."

Did she trip and hit her head or something? She's making sense.

Back when the whole Chick Fil A controversy was going on, I had several gay friends support them. They were far more offended by the attack on a private business. They could see further than the controversy to know limitations of freedom of belief can come back to bite them. Albeit, both are very libertarian, not liberal.

I haven't checked to see if they commented on this controversy yet.

A lot of things Camille Paglia says make a lot of sense.  She is a sort of "conscience" of the left.  When she criticizes her nutcake  brothers and sisters it goes in one ear and out the other.

She says she is a libertarian, (or Libertarian.)

Many conservatives on this site, as well as Reagan, have commented favorably regarding some and/or many libertarian positions.

She's a libertarian of sorts.  She believes in the freedom to choose your sexuality, speak your mind, take drugs, have an abortion, etc.  But property and gun rights?  Not so much.  Geraldo and Bill Maher also call themselves libertarians, but that doesn't necessarily make them so.

I prefer the term "constitutionalist" or "classic liberal" to "libertarian."  Too many socialists toss the latter term around in an attempt to obscure their views on economic issues.
