Paul Ciancia, who was suspected of shooting a federal security officer in Los Angeles International Airport, is trialed for first-degree murder penalty that might lead to potential death sentence.

On November 1, a shooting occurred in LA International Airport, during which Ciancia was accused of murdering Gerardo Hernandez, a Transportation Security administration officer as well as wounding two other TSA officers.

These whole three charges carry the possibility of the life sentence as it includes murder of a federal law enforcement officer.

According to the officials, “the government has not made a decision on seeking the death penalty if Ciancia is convicted of any of these charges.”

The case is marked, as it is the first time that the TSA staff member was shot on duty. The shooting marked the first time a TSA employee was killed in the line of duty. Since the shooting, TSA has moved some teams of specially trained officers to do the work as their place in the airport at the counter is extremely vulnerable. For now, according to the TSA administrator John Pistole there are talks on whether to make this shift permanent.

The court file documents state that Ciancia shot officer from Smith & Wesson assault rifle. He was going away but he saw that Hernandez was still alive so he came back and shot him one more time, killing him.

According to the same documents the gunman did this on purpose, he also killed two other staff members and one civilian passenger. After that he was shot by the police, a note was found on him stating that it was “the conscious decision to try to kill”.

Ciancia is currently in custody and is scheduled for trial on December, 26.

Never happen. Not in a liberal state like California.

The only criminals who would ever be deemed so evil as to merit the death penalty from this administration would be "white racists"...

He will get the death penalty but it will be decades before the sentence is taken out. California has one of longest appeals process for death penalty cases in the nation. The last person who was executed was in 2006
