Five Years Later, Democrats Still Blame Bush
by John Sexton 17 Dec 2013

Nearly five years from the inauguration of President Obama an overwhelming majority of Democrats continue to blame George W. Bush for the nation's economic troubles.

The Washington Post released the results of a new poll today. The results were mostly bad for the President but more mixed for people's views on Obamacare. The poll also found that an overwhelming majority of Democrats have not given up on blaming President Bush for current economic problems:

Note the word current in the question. This is asking who is to blame for the conditions right now. By more than 4:1 Democrats say President Bush is at fault. By contrast, Republicans blamed Obama for the current situation 64-21. Among registered voters the results were 50-37 in favor of blaming Bush over Obama.

Is it possible that Dems will blame Bush for the sluggish economy right through to the inauguration of the next President? Assuming that person is also a Democrat, blaming Bush could conceivably extend until 2024.

Some of the 18% that blame Obama are potential GOP votes. Eisenhower called them "right thinking democrats."

The GOP has lost the popular vote for President, 5 of the last 6 times. The only conservative President in 80 years was Reagan and he would not meet the criteria for "conservative" in many circles. (Nor would Goldwater).

The center-right needs a candidate they can unify with, or go down to another defeat. Governors with positive records instead of Senators. Governors that have won elections in democrat states-Walker, Christie, Sandoval, Martinez etc.

Other than being Mexican, what accomplishments does Martinez have as governor that makes her presidential material?  Or are we down to only voting on skin color or etnics these days?   And for the record the last conservative who ran in the GOP was Reagan.. He was also the last landslide winner.  How are the Doles, McCain's, Romney's working out for you in the White House?

Other than being Cuban, what accomplishments in elective office does Ted Cruz have?  Oh, he cost the GOP a huge hit in favorability when he led the government shutdown and even he realizes it now.  He was silent and invisible on the latest budget deal.

Ronald Reagan would wonder what planet Cruz was on with his tactics.

I don't think Martinez is a viable candidate yet, but Christie certainly is.  I don't like him, and don't support him, but the latest polls show he's the only GOP candidate who can whip Hillary.

That hit wasn't that big and it wasn't that permanent.

The hit wasn't big, but the negativity will stick to Cruz for a long time.  And Cruz knows it, which is why he's lying low.

That's very different from having it stick to the GOP.

That's true.  It will become evident over time that Cruz is a free lancer and is on his own.

Maybe so, maybe not.  Everyone has the opportunity to mature.

Back on topic.

Democrats are stupid people.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.
