even Bill is not going to say Ryan is a conservative. He is a conservative, but the philosophy that he employed here is very significant: sitting down with the Democrats and saying what is our common ground? What can we agree on?

That suggests that Mr. Ryan may have a lot more future potential in him.  Compromise, if artfully done, can be a very useful tool, as Reagan frequently demonstrated; it's possible that he may actually have some skill at it, in contrast to most of the rest of the GOP, both moderate and conservative.
