Mother of girl in Colorado first-grade kissing suspension says boy's punishment was merited



CANON CITY, Colo. –  The mother of a girl involved in the case of a 6-year-old Colorado boy who was suspended for giving a classmate unwanted kisses says the school did the right thing. 

The girl's mother, Jade Masters-Ownbey, told the Canon City Daily Record on Wednesday, that the school district did a "great job" protecting her daughter from repeated harassment from the boy.

First-grader Hunter Yelton was given a two-day suspension, with a sexual harassment infraction on his discipline record. The boy's mother said the "sexual harassment" mark was too harsh.

One one hand, I can understand the suspension if the child had been repeatedly warned.  Not sure about the sexual harassment charge is possible for a child below the "Age of Reason".

That said, I wonder how they would have handled it if he was trying to kiss another boy and not a little girl?   :laugh:

Or if the boy got caught masturbating, since they teach it. It appears the new thing is teaching sex without kissing.

I'm not sure about the sexual harassment aspect. It seems suspension for being a frickin misbehaved nuisance would have been more appropriate

General misbehavior. No sex. He knew from the warnings that he was doing something wrong, and he got a kick out of it. Like many six year old boys. That's all. Nothing more than that.
