The Race War Comes to Christmas: “No More White Santa”

Why does Santa Claus have to be white? Isn’t that racist?
Yes, it is. Clearly. The presence of white people means a lack of diversity. But diversity is good. Ergo, if we want more diversity, we need less white people.
That’s what the left believes, anyway, and make no mistake about it.
In an op-ed at Slate.com, strong, proud black woman Aisha Harris recalls how her father, when she as a little girl inquired what race Santa was, told her that he was all “colors” (as if race only has to do with skin color), and that he takes the “color” of whatever family he visits. Sounds to me like Santa understood that every separate race on Earth is more comfortable among its own people.
Miss Harris didn’t buy that as an explanation as to why the Santa decorations in her household were black, though. And now that America is becoming less and less white, she believes a change oughta be done come.
Her proposed change—mind you, her anti-white mentality causes her to see this as an upgrade–is to turn Santa Claus into…

“[M]aking Santa Claus an animal rather than an old white male,” writes Miss Harris, “could spare millions of nonwhite kids the insecurity and shame that I remember from childhood.”
Some counseling for Miss Harris might be in order if she has developed insecurity about her race from a fictional character who shows his face but one month out of the year.
Maybe she ought to think of Christmastime as White Male Individual Named Santa Month, and, in exchange, she can go on taking no issue at all with February’s being a devoted celebration to not just one black person, but every black person in America.
She goes on. “That this genial, jolly man can only be seen as white—and consequently, that a Santa of any other hue is merely a ‘joke‘ or a chance to trudge out racist stereotypes—helps perpetuate the whole ‘white-as-default’ notion endemic to American culture….”
What’s wrong with seeing white as the default? America was founded by white Europeans. White is the default.
Let’s look at it in another way. Seeing that Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicholas, who was white, wouldn’t it be racist to henceforth portray him as anything other than his original, white race?
Whenever books or movies have non-white characters in them, and then the books are adapted to movies or the movies are remade to portray those characters as white, the left goes into freakout mode over the abhorrent racism of it all.
This happened when Japanese cartoon Dragonball Z was made into a live-action feature film, starring a white man as the lead character, Goku, who, although he’s technically an alien in the series, is ostensibly Japanese. Just ask the hysteric liberals who said it was racist to remake a “Japanese” character as white.
This racial shift and consequent liberal cries of “RACISM!” also occurred when the front cover illustration of the American version of Justine Larbalestier’s book Liar portrayed the main character as a long-haired white woman, when the character was actually a short-haired black woman.
I’m all for keeping black characters as black characters in the remake, but only if changing white characters to non-white characters stops being tolerated.
However, since changing white characters will, unfortunately, continue to be tolerated, and in light of the campaign to nix jolly old St. Nick’s whiteness, I call for the next biopic about Martin Luther King, Jr., to cast a white man as the lead. No blackface needed, either; just make him white.
