Guess Who! Four Republicans to Help Budget Deal Proceed

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/12/13/McCain-Collins-Voting-for-Cloture-on-Budget

by Tony Lee 13 Dec 2013

Four Senate Republicans -- Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), Susan Collins (R-ME) (who is facing a primary challenger), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), and Richard Burr (R-NC) -- are planning to vote for cloture on the budget deal that Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) brokered that raises spending beyond the sequestration levels by raising taxes.

There are 53 Democrats and two Independents that caucus with Democrats. Since 60 votes are needed for cloture, one more Republican vote will be needed.

The House passed the deal on Thursday.

According to Politico, if a few Democrats decide not to vote for cloture, a few more GOP votes will be needed. In that case, Sens. Bob Corker (R-TN), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), John Hoeven (R-ND), Rob Portman (R-OH), Lamar Alexander (R-TN), and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) may also consider voting for cloture as needed to allow the bill to pass because Republicans intend to filibuster it.

Collins told Politico, “I will vote for cloture." Just like Republicans did during the defunding debate, though, Collins may then vote against the final bill after she lets it get to the floor, when it will pass with a simple majority.

The budget agreement, which increases spending beyond sequester levels, has been resoundingly criticized as a tax increase.

If there was ever any doubt why Flake didn't have any primary challengers when he ran for Senate, his voting in lockstep with McCain says it all.

They'll find some RINO who is either retiring, or not up until 2018 to vote for it.

McInsane, Collins and Fake are not surprising at all.  Burr is a mild surprise.  Burr, however, has been making a steady leftward course.  At one time, he was considered very Conservative.   He is now much more DC than he is NC.   He needs to go along with Graham and Alexander.

Who thinks the GOPe couldn't get 20 votes if they needed it?  They got 25 to cave in on the Cruz shutdown.

John McCain is a loathsome creature.

Yep, he really is, on so many levels.

And he seems obsessed with getting us involved in another war some where, anywhere, and always on the side of Muslim radicals. He is in a panic that we will pull out of Afghanistan without another war some where to take it's place.

I can't figure out if he is a puppet of the military aerospace industry, or a friend of Islam. But he consistently works in the interests of both.

Good post. I also consider the fact that McCain has a temper, and this is his backhanded way of getting even with "certain" conservatives.

Disclaimer:  In the real world John McCain is a honorable soldier who paid a heavy price to defend his nation.  He is respected by his colleagues of power in Washington on both sides of the isle.  He is known as a man who can make things happen.  He's known as a man of principle who is not afraid to take on his own party when he thinks they are wrong.  He has won re-elections by enormous margins in the Senate.  A testament to his popularity with his constituents.

we now resume with our regularly scheduled McCain Bash.

John McCain always thinks his party is wrong, especially if it will get him some camera time.
He's a democrat in republican clothing.  I wish he would retire or change parties.
I've had enough of him!

In the real world McCain is no longer whom he used to be and he's becoming more a tool of this (mal)administration than anything else.  His beating the wardrums so persistently for Obama's little wag-the-dog campaign on Syria was disgusting to watch.  If he really was the statesman he (assuming arguendo) was, then he would have been a little more circumspect about that.  He wasn't, which means he ain't what you think he used to be.

The right also have this blindness. Someone can serve their country in the military with dedication and honor, yet still be a complete arsehole in civilian life.

In many ways, I'd prefer to see fewer vets in government at any level. Not because I disrespect them, but because if they were in for a while, following a hierarchy becomes second nature. You obey your senior officers (grudgingly at times) and command your subordinates with very little unsolicited feedback.

McCain is a prime example of that way of thinking. He's old, presidential candidate, hell of a long time in the senate - he thinks of himself as CO of all republicans. So he spouts off. RHIP - and he's going to use it.

Are you talking about the same John McCain that cheated and left his crippled wife for a rich beer barron's daughter?  The same John McCain who finished at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy?  The same John McCain who wrecked several planes and was a terrible pilot?   The same John McCain who received special treatment as a POW because the NV viewed him as a trophy, the son of an Admiral?  The same John McCain who made sure the records of Vietnam POWs were kept confidential????  The same John McCain that was part of the Keating Five Savings and Loan scandal?  The same John McCain that supports Carbon taxes, voted against tax cuts, supports wars for Islamist terrorists, loves amnesty, thinks waterboarding is "terrorist action", nuked Bush's judicial appointees to federal courts, led the fight on the Senate floor against the Marriage Amendment, and wanted to be John Kerry's running mate?

I agree totally.  I meant to include McCain on the list.  Benedict Arnold "shiny objected" me.

The truth is, the fix is always in when it comes to these things.  The argument is over what members of the club will have to pay a political price, and how much those members are going to charge the taxpayers for their hypocrisy.

Benedict Arnold at least had the excuse that he was a brilliant General, constantly passed over for command. Still a traitor though.

So what? If Harry Reid can't get the voes he can just change the rules like he did for nominations. He'll then blame the Republicans and, just like his shutdown shenanigans, get away with it.

Besides, budget bills cannot be filibustered anyway.

So did Saddam Hussein, Hugo Chávez, Baarack Obama and countless other corrupt despots. His election record speaks more to his ability to manipulate the system and the masses than anything else.

That's a huge part of the problem with many of them.  That whole place needs to be leveled, paved over, and left as a reminder for the ages of how "power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely."

Let's keep one thing in mind.  The main reason that this deal went through is because there was absolutely no involvement by the White House.  At some point the two parties in Congress have to come together on something, and to date Obama's involvement has torpedoes each and every attempt to get any kind of compromise.

This does not mean I am endorsing any of it, just pointing out that had Obama not been out of the Country, none of this would have happened.
