Arrest made in attempt to bomb Wichita airport, FBI says
« on: December 13, 2013, 07:55:41 pm »
A Kansas man was charged Friday for allegedly plotting to detonate a car bomb at the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport in Kansas.

Terry L. Loewen, 58, an aviation technician at the airport, spent months planning the attack and was going to use his access card to drive the vehicle  loaded with explosives to a terminal, authorities said, citing the criminal complaint. He planned on dying in the explosion as a martyr, authorities said.

Loewen was arrested without incident at 5:30 a.m. while trying to gain access to a tarmac, authorities said.  At the time, he was with the vehicle he thought was filled with explosives, the FBI said.

There was never a bomb that could explode and the public was never in danger, authorities said.

Loewen has been under investigation by the Wichita Joint Terrorism Task Force since early summer 2013. It is alleged that in the past he has made statements that he was resolved to commit an act of violent jihad against the United States.

He faces three federal charges including attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. If convicted, Loewen faces a life sentence in federal prison.

"This incident is a reminder that we must remain vigilant and reaffirm our commitment to protecting this country and its ideals from those who wish to do us harm," Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., said in a statement.

Like anything else the government tells us, I'd take this story with a grain of salt. This government has no credibility on any subject as far as I'm concerned

I really wonder just how much the feds had to do with this "plot" given the fact that there never was a bomb or the fact that they were the ones to supply him with the non-explosive components?

Quote
Terry L. Loewen was identified as the suspect who allegedly wanted to set off a bomb at the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport in Kansas.

Loewen, 58, was identified as a avionics tech expert who lives in Wichita. He had a security access card for the airport, said Barry Grissom, the U.S. Attorney, in a press conference on Friday after the arrest was made.

Loewen was charged with a count each of trying to use a weapon of mass destruction, attempting to damage property and attempting to provide support to the terrorist group al-Qaeda, The Associated Press reported.

Investigators told AP he was under investigation for around six months when he made statements about wanting to commit “violent jihad” against the United States. No other arrests are expected to be made in the case, officials said.

Well, he does look dumb enough to give 6 or 7 fed, state and local LE groups and anti terror agencies an opportunity to hold a press conference and tell us what a great job they are doing. In years past this harmless goofball would have been locked up for a few days in a hospital for a psych eval and no one would have heard a thing about his 'horrific' plot

Really?

ATF uses questionable tactics for sting operations, investigative report claims

An investigative report published this week by the Journal Sentinel claims that the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives used “rogue tactics” to carry out sting operations in a supposed effort to get guns out of the hands of criminals and illegal drugs off the streets.....

In Wichita, agents used what they described as a “slow-headed” man with a low IQ as a key player in one sting operation because, according to the “slow-headed” man’s attorney, the “30-something bearded and tattooed white guys” just wouldn’t have worked.
