The White House insisted Wednesday that President Obama’s credibility had not been damaged by the botched rollout of Obamacare, despite a series of recent polls showing his diminished standing with the American public.

"I don't think I agree with that conclusion,” White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said of the assertion that fewer Americans trust the president because of broken promises over his signature domestic achievement.

However, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that 54 percent of respondents disapproved of the president’s job performance, driven mainly by the problem-plagued rollout of Obamacare.

Fifty-eight percent of those surveyed said Obamacare was the issue that most affected their perceptions of the president. In comparison, one-fourth of respondents identified the economy as driving their views of Obama.

White House officials believe they have turned the corner on the technical problems with healthcare.gov and counter that more Americans will support the law as they become familiar with the benefits of the Affordable Care Act.

More problematic for the White House than issues with the website, however, is the president’s broken promise that all Americans could keep their insurance plans under Obamacare.

Since Obama apologized for his unmet pledge, polls have shown a continual downward trend in whether Americans find him trustworthy.
