Actually what you describe isn't a nation, it is third world, backward tribalism. Ideal nations (first world successful nations) are neither homogenous (racially, ethnic identical) nor heterogeneous (multicultural), they are Assimilationist, compromising those bringing the best of their culture, ethnicism, etc, all creating a new, unified and unique culture.

Multiculturalists are pushing toward heterogeneous society of groups infighting among themselves because they don't unify under common values.
Racists and their sort push towards homogenous society which is a stagnate, tribal society that results in both physical and cultural inbreeding.
The best parts of the US are Assimilationist united under a common value of individualism and liberty.

Think Greek Hellenization, the US Melting Pot, the Catholic Church (as a universal church/political entity), or even to an extent, Roman Imperialism.

Switzerland with 3 major languages, Belgium and Canada with 2 major languages. Sweden with Swedish speakers, and minority Finnish speakers. Finland with the reverse.

Our own country with debate as to a national language, or not. After English, German was 2nd most commonly used.

A nation needs common causes and benefits, for which to unite and pursue. The US is losing the commonality. The 47% are getting undue attention and priority.

The United States has always had at least 2 languages.  English and Dutch, English and German, English and Spanish, English and Spanish and French.  It has never had "an official language" by law, only by presumption.  There was a time when pride in the new country motivated new arrivals to learn English.

Why all the surprise and doubt? You think some cultures or religions are totally free of assholes? Jews are not unicorns farting rainbows, they are people.

That kid got a beating. Having been in more than enough fights to recognize the signs (sometimes in the mirror). Whether he got a beat down for being gay (don't forget, he was in his own neighborhood, so people would know), for walking while being black, for a personal grudge, or simply just because is up to the courts to decide.
