ERICK WYATT WITHDRAWS FROM U.S. SENATE RACE
« on: December 09, 2013, 08:56:44 pm »
This is really something that should be fielded by a Texas resident like BigUn but it appears Cornyn had 5 challengers now down to 4. The question becomes who would be the best choice to replace him.

Quote
Austin, Texas: Erick Wyatt, a candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas, announced today that he will no longer seek the office held by Senator John Cornyn.

Mr. Wyatt stated, “Effective immediately, I am stopping my campaign to spend more time with my family. I will continue to be an advocate for military, veterans, and families of the fallen.”

Mr. Wyatt also announced the endorsement of his opponent, Linda Vega, a Houston resident. Mr. Wyatt said he has “met with Linda and had multiple conversations with her over the last week. I have decided that she and I share the same point of view on most political topics. Linda is very active when it comes to military rights and that weighs heavily on my heart as a 15-year combat veteran, and as a husband of a Navy veteran who lost her first husband in Operation Iraqi Freedom.” He also said he plans “to meet with Ms Vega and her team in the near future to see how I can help her campaign.”

Mr. Wyatt has been campaigning across the state of Texas for the last eight months. He thanks everyone for the support given to him during that time, and he encourages everyone to check out Linda Vega, as an alternative to Senator Cornyn.

Well son-of-a-gun, later developments seem to have answered my question, ...who would be the best choice to replace him.

Quote
At the very last minute, Representative Steve Stockman filed today to run challenge Republican senator John Cornyn of Texas in the 2014 elections.

Stockman, a darling of the grassroots with a penchant for controversial Twitter statements and headline-grabbing comments, is a very, very long shot. But he’s by far the most prominent threat to the senator, who has a number of other less well-known challengers. World Net Daily reported at about 7:30 p.m. today that the congressman would challenge Cornyn. The site says Stockman said he decided to run because he believes Cornyn “undermined Sen. Ted Cruz’s fight to stop Obamacare.” More from that article:

WND asked: What makes you think you can beat this entrenched incumbent?

“I don’t know that I can beat him, but I am sure going to try,” he said, adding that he thinks he has a shot because, “In Texas, conservative policies win over stabbing fellow Republicans in the back.”

Stockman will try to ride the wave of voter discontent with Obamacare.

In October, he was already predicting a silver lining to the failed attempt to defund the health-care law, telling WND, “In every loss, there can be a victory.”

No Texan (resident of the socialist hellhole of WA state), but am following this race and the gubernatorial one in Texas to see how things shake out. My understanding is that now the primary race is down to five, and the Texas constitution dictates a run-off of the top two if nobody reaches 50%?

Hope Coburn is primaried out, in a state that big there ought to be at least another Ted Cruz around.

LOL!!  STEVE STOCKMAN????

He's considered a joke even here in Texas.  He's got some name recognition, but most of it is negative.

He's got something like a buck ninety-eight in his campaign chest.

But, at least he's not running for another term in the House.  When Cornyn whips his ass in the primary, hopefully this will be the last we see of Steve Stockman.

Effective immediately, I am stopping my campaign to spend more time with my family.

That is usually code-speak for "something really bad about me is going to hit the fan if I stick around and I'm really withdrawing to save myself the humiliation and embarrassment."

Need more proof Stockman will be an excellent choice?

I personally know Steve Stockman and believe that he would make an EXCELLENT U.S. Senator but I also think he has bitten of a bit more than he can chew here.

Thanks for the endorsement. Stockman was off my radar but now I'll have to consider him an option.

BigUn, you are on scene and I respect your opinion. Do recall, though, the barriers and impediments Ted had to overcome to become one of our best senators. Don't count Steve out just yet.

I do have a question for you, however: if not Stockman, then who?

He's crazy.  He has ZERO chance once his nutty background becomes part of the campaign.

He's a birther.  Republicans don't want ANYTHING to do with birthers.  That's' what sunk Debra Medina's campaign against Rick Perry.

I'm not counting anyone out and least of all Steve given what he has already overcome to be where he currently is!

There are several others in the race as well with Dwayne Stovall having made the most noise thus far.  If Cornyn doesn't win without a run off he will be in BIG trouble IMHO.

Bigun.  Nobody's making any "noise" and nobody's GOING to make any noise.  These challengers are nobodies.  The most funded of the bunch was Wyatt, and he quit.  He's not going to throw good money after bad.

Stockman's a gadfly who once stated on his resume that he was a "consultant" to the University of Houston for five years.

Except that the University said he wasn't and never had been.

He's a male Christine O'Donnell.
