And the winner of the HHS video contest to promote Obamacare is...
Rick Moran

An entry titled "Forget About the Price Tag" has won the HHS video contest for promoting Obamacare.

Note: Not an Onion story.

The Department of Health and Human Services has crowned a YouTube video entitled "Forget About The Price Tag" as the grand prize winner in a contest meant to encourage young people to sign up for Obamacare.

The video contest, announced in August - in partnership with a group called Young Invincibles - encouraged participants to produce clips filled with pro-Obamacare messaging.

HHS's grand prize-winning video, announced Monday by the White House, features a young woman named Erin McDonald singing an Obamacare-loving version of Jessie J's hit single, "Price Tag."

Without a hint of irony, McDonald sings her chorus: "Ain't about the, uh, cha-ching cha-ching. Ain't about the, yeah, bla-bling bla-bling. Affordable Care Act. Don't worry 'bout the price tag."

McDonald, of course, is referring to the reasons young people should buy health insurance without worrying "'bout the price tag."

Wow. Just wow.

You might think the young woman hasn't had to worry about the price tag for just about anything, much less health insurance. The National Journal informs us:

Quote
The Health and Human Services Department launched the Healthy Young America video contest in August, seeking to raise awareness about the new health-insurance options available to youth on the Affordable Care Act exchanges. More than 19 million Americans ages 18 to 34 are uninsured, according to HHS numbers. The contest received more than 100 submissions in its three categories: "You Are Not Invincible," original song performance, and animation. McDonald received the $2,000 grand prize and a $3,000 prize for having the top song. McDonald, a resident of Chicago, signed up for Cook County's Medicaid program. She has type 1 diabetes.

Did someone tell the state of IL that the $5,000 she won in the contest might make her inelgible for Medicaid?

The huge irony is that she won by posting a video urging her fellow youth not to worry about the price tag, when she herself is getting her insurance paid for by the taxpayers. Of course she doesn't have to worry about the price tag. Most young people, however, have jobs and you wonder what they might think if they discover the winner of a government sponsored video contest urging them to spend thousands of dollars on insurance while not worrying about the price tag...doesn't have to worry about the price tag.

At some point, this young girl will be mugged by reality. Perhaps she'll make a video about that. It will certainly be more intersting than this piece of fluff she won $5,000 for.
