Lamar Alexander: RINO on the run?
Why is Lamar Alexander the RINO on the run?

Saturday, November 30, 2013 - Judson Phillips: Cold, Hard Truth by Judson Phillips

WASHINGTON.  November 30, 2013 — The conventional wisdom is that Lamar Alexander is in a position that almost any political would kill for.

The Republican Senator from Tennessee represents a state that has gone from being a purple state even a decade ago to a solidly red state. Ten years ago, a Democrat sat in the governor’s mansion. The Democrats controlled both the State House and State Senate, albeit with a Speaker of the Senate who governed with a coalition of Republicans and Democrats.

Today the Volunteer State is as red as you can find. There is a Republican governor and the Republicans now have supermajorities in both the House and Senate. It has been twenty years since the Democrats elected a United States Senator and now the only members of Tennessee’s Congressional Delegation that are Democrats come from the urban areas of Memphis and Nashville.

Lamar Alexander is a well-known former governor, Secretary of Education under George H.W. Bush and now a two term Senator.

His opponent, Joe Carr, is a State Legislator running his first statewide race and Alexander’s fundraising at least for the moment, is far outpacing Carr.

All of this would suggest that Alexander is cruising towards another term.

The conventional wisdom is quite wrong.

Lamar Alexander is now running ads in Tennessee in advance of his primary election.  On its face, that does not seem unusual except his primary is not until August. In the last fundraising quarter, Lamar Alexander raised $840,000 but spent $1.1 million. He is now engaged in a huge advertising buy nine months in advance of the election.

Why would he do that?

His name recognition among Tennesseans is through the roof.

Lamar Alexander is coming up on a list he does not want to be on. That is a list of establishment Republicans the Tea Party is coming for.

Alexander has quietly lowered his profile in the last year. Unlike Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham, who are considered bigger targets by Tea Party groups, Alexander has tried to fly below the radar. But he also has not been afraid to challenge the Tea Party either.

Appearances to the contrary, Alexander is in trouble.

Lamar Alexander’s ratings from conservative groups like Heritage Action for America are disappointing to say the least. Heritage Action gives Alexander only a 47 ranking.  The average Republican in the Senate, including people like Mitch McConnell, Lindsay Graham and Susan Collins, is 69.

There is one really big wild card in the Tennessee Senate race. A group made up of Tea Party groups, including some of the people who helped start the Tea Party movement both nationally and in Tennessee have formed a group called “Beat Lamar.” This grassroots group is going out, hitting the streets with one mission. They want to defeat Lamar Alexander.

The winner of the Republican primary will be the winner of the senate seat. The Democrats are in such disarray that they cannot even field a credible statewide candidate. In 2012, the Democrat nominee was so bad the Democrat Party disavowed him.

Lamar Alexander is not the lock for reelection he would have people believe.  If he were, he wouldn’t be spending all of that money this far in advance of the election.

Soon it will be 2014 and Lamar Alexander is a RINO on the run.

Obsessing on replacing Republicans with Republicans is something I'm NOT going to do.

Some of the time it means getting a primary victory, for a candidate that loses the general, and turns a seat over to the dems.

And that is not intelligent, wise, or a good strategy for use of limited resources, etc.

At the risk of repeating myself, THAT is exactly what primaries are for!!

Personally I'm just as sick and tired  of RINOS aiding and abeting the socialists as I am the socialists themselves!

If the state is a lock for Republicans - which the article states is the case - there is only one other practical consideration regarding replacing Sen. Alexander.

How senior is he and what committees is he on?

A two term senator has some seniority and a power base. Replacing him will lose that seniority. If he's on some BS committee, it's well worth getting a more conservative senator into the seat. If he is on one of the more influential committees, it might be worth keeping him around, regardless of his squish, since the chances of his replacement being on the same committee is negligible.

Don't know enough about the actual race. Just know tactics.

If you had said "The Tea Party isn't even trying to hide they are anti-GOPe and nothing else."  you would have been closer to the mark but as it is you completely missed it!

The TEA party is PRO Constitutional government and  and thus against whoever and whatever stands in the way of that regardless of labels!

With all due respect EC I don't give a crap what flipping committees he is on
.. it's a reliably red state and the Democrats are about as organized there as Republicans in Calif.. as in NOT .. and Alexander is a better Democrat than Republican... I care in these reliably red states that the produce a reliable conservative.  Frankly we don't tell you who the UK should have in charge.

No offense taken! If it's reliably red then yes, it is a proper target for getting a more conservative senator in. The seniority/ committee thing is just a parameter to be considered.

Though - if you think the USA does not have a massive say in who becomes PM here, or even certain borough MP's or mayors, you really have not been following the advertising dollars closely enough. Without American unions funneling money to the Labour party, we'd have a solid Conservative government, rather than this beast of a coalition. It got blatant enough to be commented on with varying degrees of fury.

Well if you want to get really technical the union guy leading this is Andy Stern - former head of the SEIU.  He was also involved in the "Arab Spring" and he gets his funding through George Soros.  Soros got his brainwashing at the Fabian school in the UK... and has been trying to spread his hate and discontent in our country for a very long time... the UK should have taken care of him before his tentacles spread so far and wide.  However, the guy who flies under the radar- former Steelworkers union head Leo Gerard is a Canadian is the most powerful ......... so don't blame us for this mess.......

Leo Gerard – The Most Powerful Man In Obama’s America?
Friday, December 16, 2011 22:39

You want the real-deal spooky dude?  George Soros is but a caricature – Leo Gerard is the real deal.

Yesterday, following the advice of Wall Street Insider,  I quickly published a brief overview of Leo Gerard – head of the the United Steel Workers Union and Vice President of the AFL-CIO.  Those two designations alone mark Gerard as among the most influential figures within the now Progressive-dominated Democratic Party in America.  Further investigation though reveals just how deep Leo Gerard’s influence goes – well beyond the borders of the United States, and most certainly within the operational confines of the Obama White House.  Gerard is not merely “connected” – he appears to in fact be the direct link between labor unions, globalization, radical environmentalism, and the highest levels of American politics.  With millions of union members and billions of dollars at his disposal, there is perhaps no greater influence upon the current progressive political climate that permeates the world today than Leo Gerard.

In the 1980′s and 90′s Gerard quickly rose through the ranks of the USW’s Canadian operations, becoming its national director in 1991.  He had already established close ties to Canada’s New Democratic Party – a socialist organization strongly linked to organized labor and the radicalized environmental movement.  Ironically, as Canada’s voters shifted to a more conservative outlook, Gerard set his sights upon the United States and its potential to become even more politically radicalized than his home country.  By 2001, Gerard was the USW’s international president – lauded by Bob Roman of the Democratic Socialists of America as being “both militant and radical.”  In less than two years, Leo Gerard had also earned an executive position with the AFL-CIO – the largest trade union in the world with a membership of over 11 million whose president, Richard Trumka, is among the most frequent vistors to the Obama White House.  But while Trumka is the AFL-CIO president, Leo Gerard is that union’s Public Policy Chairman – and with his position as head of USW, – the largest industrial union in North America,  which though smaller in overall membership numbers than the more loosely affiliated AFL-CIO, has a far greater reach internationally, and a membership noted for a willingness to engage in overtly aggressive tactics, Gerard’s power and influence greatly exceed those of Trumka. When the AFL-CIO is involved in any kind of public protest or collective manipulation of the politica process – it is Leo Gerard pulling those strings.

« Who Is Leo Gerard?

Gerard, having learned the importance of utilizing labor unions to influence political outcomes during his tenure in Canada, was increasingly open and willing to join forces with the “idea groups” of the new socialist-progressive movement that was well underway in the United States in the 1990′s – often coordinating such efforts with SEIU president Andy Stern and other radicalized labor union contemporaries.  Just such an example in fact was what ultimately launched the campaign of a then largely unknown young Illinios politician by the name of Barack Obama.

In 2004, Joel Rogers, a socialist-leaning academic from Wisconsin, and founder of the “New Party”, reached out to Leo Gerard in an effort to establish a relationship with the labor union leader in order to legitimize Rogers’ hopes of transforming the country’s political system into one dominated by organized labor, environmental groups, and “social justice” concerns.  The two had already established something of a relationship years earlier when Gerard had written the forward to a book Rogers had co-written titled Working Capital: The Power of Labor’s Pension.  Rogers would provide the philosophical foundation while Gerard’s involvement would effectively contribute the political “muscle”. All that was then needed was a candidate who would be easily controlled – one whose own experience and outlook sided with both Rogers’  socialistic utopia, and Gerard’s Big Labor radicalism.  That candidate was Barack Obama. The organization became known as the Apollo Alliance. While others have documented the influence of the Apollo Alliance upon the rise of Barack Obama, that documentation has too often underscored the direct influence and control over the organizatioin exerted by Leo Gerard.  While other names linked to the Apollo Alliance – Andy Stern, Van Jones, George Soros, etc. were given high profile exposes by various conservative investigators and pundits, Gerard’s own name was often hidden from open view, or only mentioned in passing, and yet, it is Gerard who continues in his position with both USW and the AFL-CIO, as well as being an appointed adviser within the Obama administration. It is Gerard who has openly pushed for the excesses of the more recent Occupy Wall Street protests – effectively calling for riots and then seeing those riots break out three days later in Oakland.

Soros has a particular place in my soul. Thanks to him breaking the Bank of England on Black Thursday for his own amusement and enrichment, I was dumped out of a job on 12 hours notice, with 4 kids, a wife who couldn't work at the time and the grand total of 23 quid in the bank to feed us.
If he rots in hell, as he should, I want to go to hell too. Just to be able to hurt him for all eternity for what he did to my family. Sure, there'll be a queue. I am patient.

I had no idea about Gerard. Fascinating read, thank you!

Too bad you are unable to watch Glenn Beck.. his viewers learned all this back when he was still at Fox... note the connection Gerard has to Wisconsin - this is one reason they fought so hard to stop the Republicans from their foothold there in 2010.

But you now see this is not the USA labor unions - these nefarious characters make Hoffa look like a lightweight - all of this came from outside the USA and we have been attacked same as everyone else they go after with their leftist puppets.

And this is why people in the GOP, like Lamar Alexander, have to go if this country is to be saved from the leftists --  a leftist is a leftist no matter what party he claims affiliation to.

You know - I always rolled my eyes when someone would raise the specter of the New World Order. I mean, it seemed so ridiculous, on the face of it. You can't get three people to agree on burgers or tacos, never mind running the world.

Reckon maybe I were wrong on that.

I'll take a look at Beck again - promise. Find a stream or something. You convinced me of that, at the least!

Alexander is a disaster for Tennessee.  He is amnesty loving and refuses to fight with the left.  A more Conservative candidate can be elected in Tennessee and should be elected in Tennessee.  I will celebrate when this RINO is gone for good.
