Based on the mixed comments, I was wondering when someone would risk contributing the obvious 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'.

Indeed, it is.  I have always been perplexed by the perceived beauty of Julia Roberts, tho.

Me, too! She's barely cute, let alone beautiful. She's not ugly, but more of a plain Jane. Her face isn't quite organized.

Me 3. She is certainly not ugly but one of the 50 most beautiful....no. I've never quite understood it myself

Okay... I am about to be shallow and petty... But JR's lips have no form or shape and when she smiles you see every damn tooth in her mouth - even the back molars.

Raquel Welch was killer beautiful.  Sophia Loren too.  And Michelle Pfeiffer.

Thank God he didn't include Ellen Barkin on the list.

There were only a few I would question as being in the top 50 - and I agree with the rest of you on Helen Hunt. She is an attractive girl I'm not taking that away from her, but more of the girl next door type, and not on the same playing field as these other strikingly beautiful women.  My favorite has always been Hedy Lamarr.

I would have a hard time not placing these other women in the list someplace,
Linda Darnell
Donna Reed
Yvonne De Carlo (of the 1940s not Munsters era)
Tuesday Weld  - My first TV heart throb
Anne Francis - Seeing her in Forbidden Planet made me forget all about Tuesday Weld
Oh and Marry Ann & Ginger. the girls that made me forget all about Anne Francis

What boy did not have that poster of Raquel in the fur bikini hanging on their bedroom wall, or wish they had. And if you didn't you know which one I'm talking about without looking it up, it is that engrained into our brains.

Anyone else notice that when you post what you think is very important major  Breaking News over on the Current Events category, you may get 2 maybe 3 added comments on a good day. But post a topic of beautiful women, like the Betty Page post from a couple of weeks ago, or this one and the pages of posted comments just  stack up.

That leads me to believe that the demographics of members here are either 14 year old boys with hormones on hyper-drive, or we are all facing a midlife crisis.

As we admire the beautiful women in entertainment, we can also admire beautiful every day women, who are just as fine looking, but took different paths in life. These ladies are every bit as pretty as the Hollywood types, and more. Many are mothers who could care less about the limelight.

Of course, the women I speak of don't pose provocatively, but they are noticed!  ^-^

Midlife?  I wish.  I'm over 60.  My wife says there's no harm in lookin'.

Was going to say that I was proud to be going through a mid-life crisis at my age.   If THAT is what it is!

For every thread such as this, whether it is music, sports or entertainment, there are dozens of political and news threads.  Most of them are depressing.  I am grateful for the diversion.

The same breakdown can be said of the most popular threads in News/Current Events and General Discussion.

Many times you'll see headlines with a couple of dozen views and zero comments....on stories that are 'front page'.

And time and again, the tabloid headline threads always get the most activity.

I'm with Lando...the diversion greatly appreciated.

It was just a tongue-in-cheek  observation - heck I myself have now posted 4-times on this thread, far beating my average.

Hard to believe but even the ancients recognized the appeal of a beautiful woman.

From Irving Berlin, written in 1919 (if you can believe it).

Quote
A pretty girl is like a melody
That haunts you night and day,
Just like the strain of a haunting refrain,
 She'll start up-on a marathon
 And run around your brain.
You can't escape she's in your memory.
 By morning night and noon.
She will leave you and then come back again,
A pretty girl is just like a pretty tune.

One of several hundred (thousands?) versions of this lovely piece:
