So called "fracking" has been used for many decades. It has becomes more, and more advanced technically and consequently more effective.

Horizontal drilling is combined with fracking, to yield improved results.

The oil/gas industry quietly invests in science and technology, to advance their results.

But it remains the risky oil business, which if put fully in the hands of government bureaucrats would look like Obamacare, welfare fraud, crooked inner city mayors, etc.

The gas industry goes to great lengths to ensure that pollutants don't escape during the fracking process, but I'm sure facts don't matter to the radical environmentalists.
