It really gives you an appreciation for the awesomeness of our universe, huh? There are a million different things that could happen at any moment and wipe out all life on Earth. A marauding black hole could make its way into our solar system and produce more gravity than the sun, throwing planets around like baseballs and completely disrupting orbital paths. We might survive just long enough to see Earth crashing into Mars, or maybe we'd just be vaporized by the immensely powerful black hole. There could be a giant gamma ray burst created by a supernova hundreds of light years away that is on a collision course with Earth, and we'd have no idea. We'd all be living our lives as usual and then all of a sudden, psst, like putting out a match.
