GOP sen.: O-Care delay only benefits Dems

By Ramsey Cox

Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) accused President Obama of trying to help his Democratic colleagues by delaying ObamaCare's second-year enrollment period until after the 2014 elections.

The administration made the announcement Friday that it would allow insurance companies an additional month to determine their 2015 rates on the exchanges.

“The only American consumers this change will help are Democratic politicians who voted for ObamaCare, because it delays disclosure of some of the law's most insidious effects until after the election,” said the ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

The change would prevent most consumers from knowing their 2015 ObamaCare premiums until after they go to the polls because of the shift in dates.

The next ObamaCare enrollment period will be delayed one-month, until Nov. 15, 2014 — less than two weeks after the midterm election.

Democrats have increased pressure on Obama to delay mandates under the Affordable Care Act, also know as ObamaCare, since the healthcare exchange roll-out debacle.

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-Md.) has seven Democratic co-sponsors to her bill, the Keeping the Affordable Care Act Promise Act, which would force the administration to keep its promise of “if you like your healthcare plan you can keep it,” after more than 3.5 million received cancelation notices from their insurers.
