I suspect, but do not know for a certainty, the narcocorridos enjoy some support among the Mexican populace because they engage in charitable activities much the same way Al Capone set up soup lines during the Depression.

Maybe I am wrong but that's a long time practice of a number of gangsters. A couple of bucks spent in the right way can earn a lot of good will.
