The husband of former Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris committed suicide Tuesday morning at the couple’s Sarasota home.

Police were called to the home in the 1400 block of Bay Point Drive around 7:30 a.m., the Sarasota Herald Tribune reported.

Police and the Rev. William Hild, pastor of downtown Sarasota’s First Baptist Church, confirmed that Anders Ebbeson, 68, had taken his own life and asked the community to respect the family’s privacy.

“On behalf of the family, Katherine’s husband took his own life,” Mr. Hild said outside the home, the Herald Tribune reported. “They are asking for privacy, prayer, thoughts and love from the community.”

“Anders has been suffering health conditions that he’d been attempting to deal with, which had been increasingly part of his life,” he added.

Mrs. Harris, a Republican, rocketed to notoriety as a part of the botched 2000 presidential election in Florida, The Associated Press reported. She retired from public life after losing a U.S. Senate race to incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in 2006, the Herald Tribune said.

Evidently, he had a serious illness that he couldn't cope with. I'm thinking Alzheimer's or something as dreadful. Even so, the MSM and liberals will have a good time trashing him and his wife.

Sad news ...sympathies to the family. Katherine Harris wasn't a bad person and she was only doing her job in 2000 when the left savaged her. She would have made a better Senator, any day of the week, over that good for nothing dimwit "yes man" Nelson.
