Barrasso: Obamacare May Need Taxpayer Bailout

Obamacare is so flawed and broken it may need a taxpayer bailout to deal with the impact says Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo.

"The president did not need to destroy a good healthcare system to try to make a better one," Barrasso said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."

President Barack Obama announced Thursday that insurers can continue for one more year to allow plans that don't meet Affordable Care Act rules. Barrasso called that a "false fix" and "political Band-Aid" that doesn't cure the problem of people needing the healthcare of their choosing.

Obama is losing Democratic support and has fallen in the polls after being accused of breaking his repeated promise that people who like their health insurance plans could keep them. In addition to policy cancellation notices, some people are experiencing sticker shock over the prices of the new policies and others are not allowed to keep their doctors.

Asked by host Candy Crowley if Obama is in hole he can't get out of, Barrasso responded, "I'm a lot less concerned about the president and his legacy than I am about the lives of the people in my state of Wyoming and the people around the country who are being hurt by the policy of this healthcare law."

Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., was optimistic of the president's chance of recovery.

"Paradise lost. Paradise regained," Clyburn said. "When you lose something you can find it again."

Obama has taken responsibility for losing Americans' trust, Clyburn said, and he will regain it again.

The glitch-riddled HealthCare.gov website is a rollout problem, Clyburn added, not a values problem.

"What we're trying to do is change a values system in our country," he said.
