Duck Dynasty Endorsed Candidate Wins Congressional Election
by Ulsterman on November 18, 2013
Vance McAllister has never been to Washington D.C. He was, up until a few months ago, a political unknown – just a small business owner who self-funded his special election campaign against an establishment politician who was already a Louisiana State senator. What McAllister did have going for him though, was the endorsement of the Duck Dynasty family – the Robertson clan. It appears that endorsement carried significant influence, as the political newcomer sent the establishment candidate packing, and will now be his home state’s newest Congressman.
Vance McAllister defeated his establishment opponent by garnering 60% of the overall vote
– a landslide victory. He did this by coming out strongly against the Democrats and President Obama, but was also just as willing to lay some of the blame for the nation’s ills at the feet of the Republican establishment as well. McAllister also refused to align himself with local Tea Party organization or Freedom Works, instead pushing himself as the true political outsider with no formal ties to any particular organization beyond his general affiliation as a Republican.
Is McAllister’s overwhelming victory a hint at a coming Republican wave of election victories in 2014 based upon a more independent, non establishment spirit, or will it prove to simply be a one off outlier?
Or perhaps it was a recent reminder of the power of celebrity – in this case the family values, Bible quoting, the family who prays together stays together, Robertson family. (I personally like to think it is a combination of both, with a nod from a growing number of Americans that we are all just plain exhausted by nearly six years of anti-American rhetoric and Big Government tyranny that has been the hallmark of this Age of Obama)
As R.I. indicated months ago, there are big changes underway within the party. Perhaps (Congressman) McAllister’s victory is further proof of said change.
Time will tell…
