My son will call me when the time is right. He lives on the other side of my back yard. We live in adjoining cul de sacs going in the opposite directions. I put a gate between us for better access. I'm putting the cat's in the main bathroom that has no windows, and is not connected to the outside.

Do you have a pipe access under the bath? If you do, open it and half fill the tub with water.

Will do, but why? Fire? I don't want to drown my cats.  :silly:

Nah - cats are smart. They'll hide under the tub if they can - the water is just ballast.

I have a linen closet in the bathroom where they can huddle. I'd take them with me, but my son has a 35 lb cat and a Boston Terrior (terror). They obviously don't get along.

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Anthony Khoury says he and his family were in their home in Washington, Illinois, when his father thought he heard a helicopter flying overhead. Khoury and his parents turned to look out the window only to see a tornado barreling through their neighborhood.

'The tornado happened in my backyard and you can hear people screaming. We were freaking out,' he said. Khoury stood by the window documenting the tornado as it passed through. He says he started praying while capturing the video. 'I'm a man of faith,' he said.

The 21-year-old says after the tornado dissipated, he and his family went outside to survey the damage. He says to their surprise their home was not affected by the tornado, but unfortunately the surrounding neighbor faced a lot of damage. 'It was complete destruction. There are people in the streets crying,' he explained. 'We're so blessed that our street was untouched. You drive out of my street and all this destruction is there. A mile away it is all destroyed,' he said.

CHICAGO (CBS) – A tornado has torn through Washington, Illinois, which is east of Peoria in Tazewell County.

“There’s quite a few people that are hurt. Their houses are gone.”

Washington Ill. Alderman Describes Devastation In Wake Of TornadoWBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller
00:00
WBBM spoke with Washington, Illinois, Alderman Tyler Gee.

“I went over there immediately after the tornado, walking through the neighborhoods, and I couldn’t even tell what street I was on. Just completely flattened – some of the neighborhoods here in town. Hundreds of homes.”

Alderman Gee says he went door-to-door, yelling in windows. He said he heard banging on a wall.

“I had to climb in through the window. The front door was blocked shut. I climbed in and there was debris up against the bathroom door that she was in… I had to get the debris out to open the door.”

Gee says he is part of the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency response team in that area, and unbeknownst to him, he was in the path of the storm.

He moved locations, he says. “And that was a very, very good decision. It went right through where I was sitting in my pickup truck. It was unbelievable.”

“All I can ask for is a bunch of prayers from everybody… we’re going to need them.”

Illinois EMA has confirmed one person has died in Washington County and 43 people have been hospitalized in the Peoria area.

A tornado was also reported in Coal City, IL around 12:15 p.m., causing heavy damage to buildings and downed power lines.

According to CoMed, around 79,000 in the Chicago area are without power.

So far so good. I'm at my son's and the worst is yet to come, or so the weatherman is saying. We're hoping to get lucky. Lots of wind, rain and some lightening.

Good to hear that you're OK.

We have a tornado watch until midnight (it's very windy and raining here), but it still looks like most of it will miss us.

The worst of the winds are supposed to hit us around midnight, but the chance of tornado is slim.

We missed the brunt of the storm. I hope the surrounding towns are as lucky. We have storm warnings until 8PM, and a high wind warning, but that's about it. Prayers for all who got caught up in it.

From the looks of the radar, it's pretty much past you.  I'm not sure what's going to go on here, but we're getting heavy rain with wind, and it doesn't look like it's going to get any worse since the line of storms is also going north as it goes east.

Tornado watch until midnight, but I doubt there's going to be a problem here.
