"Ever recorded" always makes me chuckle, because mankind has only been able to observe and record anything about his environment for such an incredibly short time in the long, long history of the planet.  A lot went on long before man arrived.

For example...there is no way to calculate how bad the storms were that were triggered around the planet from the impact of the asteroid that dug the Gulf of Mexico, but I can assure you the winds were well in excess of those from Typhoon (insert any name here)...
