Liberals treat the poor worse than animals
« on: November 10, 2013, 09:53:32 AM »
"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim tribute to patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness -- these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. . . . reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles."
George Washington

"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters."
Benjamin Franklin

Bravo!  Well written and to the point, but far too many people have now progressed their way to full dependency, and where we go from there is destruction....

I agree with Bono. (Don't be shocked, he's a nice guy. Sang her favorite song for my wife one flight, totally unaccompanied, at about 3AM local).

Commerce is the way forward. You have a tree, you can sell it. Or cut it down yourself, turn it into planks and firewood and sell it for much more. Make it into furniture? Even more.

If you have not heard of them, that is exactly what Kiva loans http://www.kiva.org/start does. Grants loans to people in the third world to start or expand businesses to get themselves out of poverty. It isn't a bank. Not affiliated with big business, though many of their checkers and advisers give of their time from the world of banking and big business to help out at no charge. It is mostly just ordinary people with a few spare in their wallets giving a hand up to people who want to change their world. You can pick who you lend to. You will never get this money back as cash. When it is repaid - and the repayment rate is a ridiculously high 90 something percent - it goes back into your account to be loaned out again at your discretion.

It is one of the few charities out there that is up front about what many of us believe - a hand up, not a hand out. Worth looking in to.

Great thoughts EC...but I would counter with a quote from Thomas A. Edison....

"Many people miss opportunity because it frequently comes dressed in coveralls and resembling work."

That applied to many Americans a century ago and even more so right now...

I hate to say you are right. Many dear friends come from various states (seems all the real party animals are from Texas or Montana) and they have been observing the same thing. I know there are youngsters out there who aren't afraid to get dirty and sweaty following their dream - but it seems to be really few now, dropped hard in the last 5 years.  **nononono*
