Rick Perry Adds A New Chapter To His Love For Dogs

The Huffington Post  |  By Chris Gentilviso   Posted: 11/09/2013 2:51 pm EST

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) has a known love for dogs. The newest member of his clan is already fitting that feeling.

The Des Moines Register caught up with Perry on Friday to talk about his newest canine friend, Scout. Perry told the paper that it's a rescue dog from Tijuana, Mexico.

“He’s the luckiest dog in America,” Perry said, showing off photos on his iPhone. “That’s what I tell him.”

Perry's protection of dogs comes with a notable twist. Back in 2010, the governor famously told the Associated Press that he needed just one shot to kill a coyote bothering his daughter's Labrador retriever.

"Don't attack my dog or you might get shot ... if you're a coyote," he said in April of that year. The incident took place in February.

That labrador puppy remains a fixture on Perry's official Twitter account as his avatar.
