BEIJING: One person was killed and eight injured as series of seven blasts — triggered by homemade bombs packed with ball bearings — rocked the provincial office of the Communist Party in the northern Chinese city of Taiyuan on Wednesday.The local government in Shanxi province confirmed the blasts but did not indicate who could have done it."Police officers found steel balls, circuit boards and similar explosive materials at the scene, apparently packed into the bombs to cause maximum damage and injury," the official Xinhua news agency said. State television said the explosive devices were hidden in roadside flower beds. One of the injured was listed in serious condition, and a bus and several other vehicles had their windows blown out or suffered other damage.Blood stains were visible on the sidewalk and on the door of a damaged SUV.Police closed off the broad street in front of the party headquarters, and fire trucks, ambulances and police vehicles were parked in the area. State media showed a man lying on the ground, apparently dead.
