But God forbid if they should ever try to monitor any communications going into, or coming out of, a mosque, even a mosque that is known to be used by hardliners involved in terrorist activities.

I am sure that the Vatican  spies using on a vast network of priests, missionaries, Archbishops, religious diplomats, and laity. They probably tap their own phone lines.

??  They spy on themselves?  I'm not sure I see quite the same problem there.
