Chinese Gov Calls Tiananmen Square Incident 'Organized Terrorist Attack'

by AWR Hawkins 30 Oct 2013, 1:45 PM PDT

The Chinese government announced the arrest of five people suspected of involvement in an "organized terror attack" in Tiananmen Square that killed "at least five people" and wounded 40 more.

Chinese authorities say the attack was "premeditated and carefully planned" so that it took place "when the annual plenary meeting of the Chinese Communist Party" was being held.

The attack took place earlier this week when an SUV carrying "Usmen Hasan, his wife Gulkiz Gini, and his mother Khanhan Reyim" slammed into the doors of the imperial palace" and caught fire. "As the driver sped toward the crash site, he ran over several tourists and police officers, killing two of the former, a Filipino woman and a man from southern China."

Chinese authorities found "a container of gasoline, two swords, an iron bar, and pamphlets with 'extremist religious content' in the burned-out [SUV]."

This is all the excuse the Chinese needed to crack down hard on the Uighurs.
