Boston police are preparing for the possibility that President Obama will make a visit to Fenway Park tomorrow night, sometime during Game 6 of the World Series.

The White House schedule has not listed an appearance at Fenway during Obama’s planned visit to Faneuil Hall tomorrow afternoon. But a law enforcement source tells the Herald that Boston police are not ruling it out and they are including it in their contingency planning.

City officials announced preliminary security plans for the home game at a press conference today.

They are asking fans with tickets to take the T if possible. For people without tickets, Kenmore Square and areas around Fenway will be closed by the 7th inning. After the game, people will be quicked ushered out of the area.

The heightened controls around Fenway were instituted after the 2004 American League Championship Series riot, in which fan Victoria Snelgrove was killed by a police pepper pellet, while rioters set cars on fire and smasjed windows. Since then, Boston police have largely prevented post-game violence by strictly controlling the areas around Fenway and the TD Garden.

The Boston Marathon bombing last April has heightened concerns about crowd events.

“We have a plan,” Mayor Thomas M. Menino said today. “The city is ready.”

“I’m very confident in our plan,” Police Commissioner Ed Davis said. “We’re looking forward to a quiet and peaceful victory hopefully.”

Menino said he has been in contact with local businesses and suggested they let their employees out early to help ease the congestion.

Davis said along with the extra police presence there will be bomb-sniffing dogs and a large presence of undercover officers.

The city is also urging businesses to keep outside pedestrian traffic to a minimum by clearing lines once capacity is reached and discouraging people from watching the game from the sidewalk.

Of course the President has to inject himself into everything.

Unless it's a scandal. Then he is totally dissociated with everything!

Gee, you'd think the least the WH could do is give the BPD proper notice instead of this "maybe he will, maybe he won't" teasing. I feel sorry for any Bostonians who will be trying to get to the ballpark.
