I worked retail for a while and almost all the 'racial profiling' was done by Black employees. Sometimes they knew the person and knew that they shoplift, in other cases they knew the type. Black security people knew what to look for and were better at shrink loss than their White counterparts.
The most obvious cases of shoplifting were when Black women came in angrily screaming obscenities either on the phone or to someone else. Typically it would go something like, "An I told that MFer that if he gonna f*** wit me I gonna kill that MFer." The point of this display was to alert store personnel that if they even look at this woman she will explode and create a huge scene." We were so used it that security would escort them out at the door. In another case, a woman came in carrying two purses one on each shoulder. lol And they were both as big as suitcases.
But we had shoplifters of all kinds, except Asian for some reason. We had White, Black, Latino, young kids, college kids, even the elderly would steal. But as a point of fact, in my small limited experience in retail, the overwhelming percentage of shoplifters were in fact Black. One case that sticks in my head was a mother with four small children. They would come in as a group and immediately split up. It turned out the mother had trained them how to steal and was giving each child a 'mission' of what to get before they entered the store.
Two generations ago, a Black mother would beat the crap out her kids if she caught them stealing. Not today. Not with this mother. My, how times have changed.
