Hillary Clinton to get American Patriot award from Bill's closest cronies
By JOEL GEHRKE | OCTOBER 25, 2013 AT 4:07 PM

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will receive the National Defense University Foundation's American Patriot Award, backed by a committee of people who could provide an oral history of Bill Clinton's most controversial moments.

There are five honorary co-chairs of the award ceremony, three of whom have close Clinton ties: Madeleine Albright, who served as Secretary of State under Bill Clinton; former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, who spent two years as Clinton's White House chief of staff; and Vernon Jordan, who became a household name when he attempted to cover up the Monica Lewinsky scandal by getting the then-White House intern a job. (The other two co-chairs are former Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman and George W. Bush's former Secretary of State Colin Powell.)

The leadership committee features such Clinton favorites as: Bernard Schwarz, the major Democratic donor whose company received permission to launch a satellite from China and hired Rahm Emanuel at the end of Bill Clinton's presidency; David Boies, who argued Al Gore's side in Bush v. Gore and holds the title of "corporate America's number one hired gun," according to CNN; and Lanny Davis, who did damage control for the Clinton White House.

Farouk Shami, a Democrat whose campaign to be Texas governor was complicated by his musings about whether the U.S. government was behind the September 11 terrorist attacks, is also on the leadership committee.

Three failed presidential candidates have received the Patriot award — former Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan.; Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.; and former Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn.

President George H.W. Bush has also received the award, given to "men and women of extraordinary caliber whose leadership has strengthened our nation's strategic interests and advanced global security," according to the invitation obtained by the Washington Examiner.

Clinton will receive the award on Nov. 14. D.C. lobbyists received an invitation to the party Friday, just ahead of a CBS "60 Minutes" report on its attempt "[t]o get to the truth about what happened in Benghazi." The show airs Sunday.
