‘What Is Wrong With This Guy?’ The Five Tackles ‘Pure Stupidity’ of Russell Brand
by Josh Feldman | 6:09 pm, October 25th, 2013 video

It’s a Friday, so let’s all dissect the political views of a British comedian. The outlandish and unpredictable Russell Brand called for a political revolution of sorts during a BBC interview, and on Fox’s The Five, they all just groaned and sighed at yet another Hollywood actor displaying his “pure stupidity” about politics.

Greg Gutfeld said Brand has the “intellectual capacity of a student” who didn’t pay much attention in college and says things without thinking first, because what he’s advocating, Gutfeld argued, was a “totalitarian system that has killed hundreds of millions of people.”

And even worse, Kimberly Guilfoyle added, “now he doesn’t have Katy Perry, so he’s like a nobody.”

Eric Bolling and Juan Williams clashed over whether America is the kind of socialist haven Brand was talking about, with Williams arguing that brand may be “kind of daft,” but he’s not “out of touch” with reality.

Guilfoyle laughed and asked, “What is wrong with this guy?” Jedediah Bila took issue with Brand’s “vilification of big companies,” and mockingly suggested if he really thinks profit is so bad , “he should give all of his money away.”

BBC Host Mocks Russell Brand’s ‘Revolution’: ‘You’re a Very Trivial Man’
by Evan McMurry | 11:39 am, October 24th, 2013 VIDEO

Comedian, prankster, and recent guest-editor of the New Statesman Russell Brand appeared on BBC’s Newsnight on Wednesday, where he defended his call for revolutionary politics—despite having never voted—to a very skeptical Jeremy Paxman.

“I don’t get my authority from this preexisting paradigm which is quite narrow and only serves a few people,” Russell said. “I look elsewhere for alternatives that might be of service to humanity.”

“How do you imagine people get power?” Paxman asked. “They get power by being voted in. You can’t even be asked to vote…In a democracy, that’s how it works.”

“Well, I don’t think it’s working very well, given that the planet is being destroyed, given that there is economic disparity of a huge degree,” Brand responded, going on to call voting “tacit complicity.”

When Brand encouraged Paxman to grow his beard longer, perhaps in resistance to the paradigm, the host replied, “You are a very trivial man.”

Paxman finally got Brand to describe with some specificity what his revolutionary state would look like. “A socialist egalitarian system based on the massive redistribution of wealth, heavy taxation of corporations, and massive responsibility for energy companies and any companies exploiting the environment,” Brand explained. “[British Prime Minister] David Cameron says profit isn’t a dirty word; I say profit is a filthy word, because wherever there is profit, there is deficit.”

Paxman stymied the actor when he pointed out that Brand’s redistribution and responsibility would have to be overseen by some sort of government-like apparatus, chosen by some sort of voting-like system. “Don’t ask me to sit here with you in a bloody hotel room and devise a global utopian system,” Brand said.

Brand looks like a Charlie Manson offspring. He is also a disgusting person. I change channels every time his mug or name appears. Katy Perry can't be too bright since she married the greaser.

I've never understood why she married him.

Me, too. He went out on her the day of their wedding, and most days after they got married. Some of his past girlfriends said he was into kinky sex, and was hardcore, which I interpreted to mean the leathers and whips.

I've heard stories that Perry, once a devout Christian, admitted to selling her soul (in a sense) to become famous. (As you recall, her breakthrough hit was about a lesbian kiss.) Marrying a notorious hedonist like Russell Brand would be the perfect demonstration of that. Dating John Mayer would not be much better.

It's a shame. I've seen a few clips of the former Katy Hudson before she was famous and she was beautiful. Now, it as if she is a plastic caricature of her former self.

    • I try my best ...

There is a trend is Hollywood which is unavoidable. People there love putting marbles in their cheeks. I guess this is fine, but it always seems to give their mouth a chipmunk look.

Natural is best. Surgery rarely works out as the customer thinks it will. Airbrushed magazines with proportional distortions have made these people crazy. Cartoons are cartoons for a reason. They are not real.

The pictures you see in magazines are not real people. They are a caricature of the people they represent. Attempting to make that reality in many cases is not possible. You can do things in paintshop which cannot exist in reality.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.

Because so many women go for the "bad boys" despite the unending misery it causes time and again.

(For the record, Katy Perry's legal last name is Hudson--ergo, Katy Hudson. She changed it professionally to Katy Perry precisely to avoid being confused with Kate Hudson. Sorry for the confusion!)

Until I saw this thread I had never heard of Russell Brand.  I've heard the name "Katy Perry", but I have no idea what she has done to merit mention on the TV, radio, or the Internet.  Doesn't sound like I'm missing much, though.

  • Words full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
I usually find Russell Brand very funny, however, philosophically he is the polar opposite of everything I believe. Example:

I saw Cher on The Voice last week and she looks utterly ridiculous.  She should marry John Kerry.  The two can go around looking absurd to the rest of the world.  The only thing worse than looking 70 is trying not to look 70 through plastic surgery and Botox.

That quote - if that's what it is - is self-contradictory.  The essence of a formal system - one that is an "artificial construction" - is that people believe in it; an artificial construction has no intrinsic reality - there's no "there" there - and therefore does not exist unless someone believes in it.  In other words, if his self is an artificial construction then it necessarily follows that it exists because he believes in it.

"Self is an artificial construction?"

In Russell Brand's case it probably is.

As it turns out this morning when I turned on the TV it was on ABC and they were showing her performance this morning at Lakewood Highschool in Colorado - she was performing her current hit - which I actually like - Roar -

Perhaps, but then Descartes isn't the last word in self any more.  It should go without thinking that aspects of the self are constructed:  we all conform some of our behaviour to the expectations of others; for example, we all have notions of what a father should be, and those of us who are males who have offspring will incorporate some of those notions into our repetoire of behaviour - some of us will also reject some of those notions and will construct our behaviour in opposition to those notions.  We also, more broadly, wear a variety of masks in life - it gives a concrete illustration.  For example, I am (in part):  my mother's son, my father's son, my siblings' brother, my wife's husband, my in-laws' son-in-law, my daughter's father, my best friend's best friend, and etc..., and none of those personae are co-extensive with any other although they generally share most of their features in common.  This can be most easily seen when you compare who I am when I'm with my best friend and who I am when I'm with my daughter:  not only would what I do with my best friend be inappropriate when I'm with my daughter, it might get me arrested for endangering a child.

So, which one of those personae is the "real" me?  Easy, they all are, and then again, none of them are.  They each represent some facet of me, and because they all incorporate some stereotyped behaviour (i.e., behaviour based on social expectations/beliefs), they are constructs - masks - but they aren't false and they aren't artificial; they're simply partial.  That the various faces - masks - I wear in society are partial and to some extent artificial does not make me - my "self" - artificial in the least.  If that quote represents Mr. Brand's actual views on the matter, then he's stuck in some shabby freshman philosophy course run by a third-rate leftist "thinker" at a fourth-rate college.

I saw her. She looked awful. None of her facial features moved. Once these women start, they don't stop, until they look like freaks.

Simon Cowell has branded Russell Brand a 'hypocrite' after he accused the comedian of accepting large Hollywood film salaries whilst campaigning against the UK political system.

According to the Mirror, music mogul Simon has told Russell to give up his multi-million pound salary if he is planning to continue his campaigning streak.

The-38-old Essex boy recently joined up with British activist group Anonymous as part of a global protest against austerity cuts and the disadvantages of the current economic system.

According to the Mirror, Simon called Russell a hypocrite who doesn’t do what he says, and has in fact benefited immensely from capitalism.

The X Factor boss told Shortlist magazine: 'A revolution? He’s getting $10 million a movie.

'I mean come on! Well give your money back then, Russell. I always say that about people. Start off as you mean to go on.

'Donate all the money back to the revolution and then I’ll believe it. I’m living in a $10 million mansion and I want a revolution? Give me a break.' ...

Good for Simon! People who make millions are a corporation. They hire many people, and decide their salaries. Many of them make more than a lot of corporations, and you can bet they go for the tax breaks. They are all hypocrites, but that is typical of Hollyweirdos and democrats.

The same goes for Paul Hewson - aka Bono from U2 - and any number of other liberal hypocrites (but I repeat myself).
