In the fourth quarter of 2011, 49.2 percent of Americans received benefits from one or more government programs, according to data released Tuesday by the Census Bureau. In total, the Census Bureau estimated, 151,014,000 Americans out of a population then estimated to be 306,804,000 received benefits from one or more government programs during the last three months of 2011. Those 151,014,000 beneficiaries equaled 49.2 percent of the population. This included 82,457,000 people--or 26.9 percent of the population--who lived in households in which one or more people received Medicaid benefits. Also among the 151,014,000 who received benefits from one or more government programs during that period: 49,901,000 who collected Social Security; 49,073,000 who got food stamps; 46,440,000 on Medicare; 23,228,000 in the Women, Infants and Children program, 20,223,000 getting Supplemental Security Income;13,433,000 who lived in public or subsidized rental housing; 5,098,000 who got unemployment; 3,178,000 who got veterans' benefits; and 364,000 who got railroad retirement benefits. When Obamacare is fully implemented on Jan. 1, 2014, Americans earning up to 400 percent of the poverty level will qualify for a federal subsidy to buy health insurance.

The ideal strategy is for conservatives, Republicans and Tea Party members to ridicule and disrespect this group of people.

(Ideal for the democrats, that is)

Yes, of course, this is the lesson to be derived from this data:

I am quite sure this report must be a gold mine for some insipid sarcasm.

Quote
Report: Welfare government’s single largest budget item in FY 2011 at approx. $1.03 trillion

Quote
The government spent approximately $1.03 trillion on 83 means-tested federal welfare programs in fiscal year 2011 alone — a price tag that makes welfare that year the government’s largest expenditure, according to new data released by the Republican side of the Senate Budget Committee.

The total sum taxpayers spent on federal welfare programs was derived from a new Congressional Research Service (CRS) report on federal welfare spending — which topped out at $745.84 billion for fiscal year 2011 — combined with an analysis from the Republican Senate Budget Committee staff of state spending on federal welfare programs (based on “The Oxford Handbook of State and Local Government Finance”), which reached $282.7 billion in fiscal year 2011.

The data excludes spending on Social Security, Medicare, means-tested health care for veterans without service-connected disabilities, and the means-tested veterans pension program.
[emphasis added]

And here comes ObamaCare.

Farmers who get subsidies, corporations that get tax subsidies as well.
Why?  Well, because I'm a bastard, that's why.

[[ The ideal strategy is for conservatives, Republicans and Tea Party members to ridicule and disrespect this group of people. ]]

Utter nonsense.

I _am_ one of those people (one of the 364,000 who receive Railroad Retirement benefits).

No matter what one may think of Mitt Romney (I didn't like him but voted for him anyway), he was DEAD RIGHT with his "47% comment" that got ridiculed by the press.

It's not even 47% any more.
Now it's around 49.2%.
Soon it will exceed 50%, and keep on climbing.

But there is a distinction which must be drawn.

There is one group of this 49% that can be called "the deserving entitlees". These are folks who worked and contributed to the system, such as Social Security recipients, RR retirement people (like me), veterans (utilizing the VA system benefits), etc.

Then there is the other part, who comprise "the UNdeserving entitlees". They never worked for anything, and have no intention of doing so. Yet they get benefits pushed at them that in some cases exceed that of the deserving entitlees. Think food stamps, EBT, ObamaPhones, Section 8.

I will hazard a guess that a larger number of deserving entitlees than you think, support the Republicans, the Tea Party, or both.

The undeserving entitlees will NEVER support conservatism or conservative ideals. They must be written off. They will vote for the democrats forever.

In order for conservatives to have a hope of exercising influence over the future of the land, it's imperative that we drive a "political wedge" between those entitlees who are deserving, and those who are not.

There are also people who are on welfare, but do not want to be.  They want a job and want to better their lives, but cannot find anything.

Sadly, welfare has become a stigma because the Democrats turned it into a way of life rather than a brief helping hand.
