Poll: Most want John Boehner ousted

By LUCY MCCALMONT | 10/21/13 6:43 AM EDT

As anger toward the Republican Party grows, a majority of Americans say a GOP-controlled House is bad for the country and want Speaker John Boehner replaced, according to a new poll out Monday.

Fifty-four percent of those surveyed say it is a bad thing that Republicans control the House, up 11 percentage points since December 2012, while 38 percent say it is a good thing, the CNN/ORC poll shows. This is the first time a majority is unhappy with the GOP controlling the House since the party gained control of the chamber in the 2010 midterm elections.

Boehner should go, a view expressed by nearly half of those within his own party. Only 30 percent support his leadership, the poll showed.

These numbers follow a disastrous week for the Republican Party that saw all-time lows in approval ratings during the government shutdown.

Less than a week since the shutdown ended, Congress still sees poor approval ratings with only 12 percent approving the job it’s doing, only 2 points away from the record low.

Concerning President Barack Obama, 52 percent disapprove of the job he is doing, while 44 percent say they have more confidence in Obama than the GOP in handling major issues.

The CNN/ORC poll was conducted Oct. 18-20 and surveyed 841 adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

If Boehner KNEW he was going to just pass this with Democrat votes, why didn't he just DO IT at the very start???

Indeed! Why?

Indeed! Why?

He should have either been willing to go the distance and keep the Peter King type in the congress under control or he just should have pulled the trigger on day one with the Democrats.

There's something really wrong with Americans or this polling the popularity of republicans is out of whack.
Statistics tell you that most people are dissatisfied with Obama care and the way that Obama, along with the democrats, have forced it on the country.
The ever faithful, liberal media is doing a daily poll on how unpopular the republicans are with the American people so it doesn't make sense.

The average American might be frustrated with republicans and the way they handled the shut-down but it was for a different reason than is being portrayed.
We wanted them to stand together, not bad mouth the ones trying to save us from disaster.

These polls are becoming suspicious, to say the least.

Polls before the shutdown, disapproved. Remember?

The House under Boehner is tied to the shutdown.

Hence he takes the blame.

He should have.  He will next time.  There aren't going to be any more shutdowns.

The polls are accurate.

The best thing for the Republicans is for Cruz and others to stop threatening another shutdown.  All the talk should be about Obamacare and the economy and nothing else.

The government shutdown was a disaster for Republicans.  Those who say otherwise are disconnected from reality.

"And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for a second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of the society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, and to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering.

Then begins, indeed, the bellum omnium in omnia, which some philosophers observing to be so general in this world, have mistaken it for the natural, instead of the abusive state of man.

And the fore horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression.

"Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightening. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will. Find out just what a people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."

Frederick Douglass August 4, 1857

"A people may want a free government, but if, from insolence, or carelessness, or cowardice, or want of public spirit, they are unequal to the exertions necessary for preserving it; if they will not fight for it when it is directly attacked; if they can be deluded by the artifices used to cheat them out of it; if by monetary discouragement or temporary panic, or a fit of enthusiasm for an individual they can be induced to lay their liberties at the feet of even a great man, or trust him with powers which enable him to subvert their institutions; in all of these cases they are more or less unfit for liberty; and though it may be for their good to have had it even for a short time, they are unlikely to long enjoy it."

The government shutdown was a disaster for Republicans.  Those who say otherwise are disconnected from reality.
Are you saying that the American people have rejected the reckless tactics of 18 Senators and 5/8ths of GOP congressmen who got suckered into it?  Or are you saying you love socialism and want to destroy America's future?
