If you could change 1 thing, what would it be?
« on: October 17, 2013, 03:51:47 pm »

What one thing do you think would make the biggest positive change to our country?

Pls. tell us what 1 single thing you would change and why.

Here are a few ideas, but the question isn't restricted to this list:

Term limits
Changes to the way taxes are levied and government services paid for
Balanced budget amendment
Get rid of or add  a specific program or department
Do away with the Electoral College
Reduce or increase spending on military/SS/social programs

Since this isn't mentioned in your list and is in the top 5 of mine I would say strict national voter ID Laws.....from which all things flow----elections.

I wouldn't have let Jake Peavy start Game 4 of the ALCS.

Also:

Scrap the Federal Income tax code and replace it with a flat tax, along with a requirement for a balanced Federal budget.

They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I really don't think one thing will do it...but the second item on your list comes closest because it was the imposition of an income tax that made possible our deep descent into socialism.

Why not just get rid of every constitutional amendment past the 14th?  That would do nicely.

Easy! Repeal the 17th amendment!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

You giving me ultimate power here? If you are:

Bring back pride in the country and in self respect. All else follows from that.

Look - I remember the 50s. Well, sort of. Americans were considered damned arrogant, but with good reason for being so. They had an immense pride in both their country and their ability to get by and get ahead.

I don't know about getting rid of the Electoral College but I think if I have to stick to one thing, it would be to successfully impeach Obama and frog march him out of Washington.

After that, maybe the rest of the list would follow.

True.  If you were white.

Not always. First black couple I ever met (I was 4) were American and damned proud of it.

My one change--get rid of the income tax and replace it with a consumption tax.

That would be item number 2 on my list and it was hard for me to decide which should be #1 or 2!

Leave in the one that limits thePrez to two terms. Otherwise we could be looking at an Il Douche in perpetuity. And expand it to include Congress.
